I haven't seen that replay of that Reimer save at the end but holy shcmoly, did it ever look epic live.  :o

"I think I just closed my eyes and screamed a little bit", said Reimer jokingly on his last-second save on Bourque.

How 'bout the play of Lupul so far?  I recall most of us thinking we were just taking a bad contract back.  He looks great so far.

He's got a good wrist going.  Playing well, indeed.

I think he's a great addition for Kessel. Lupul is a scoring threat as well, which creates some space for Kessel, not like having Joey Crabb on the other side. Plus Lupul's pretty strong on the puck and can pass as well. They compliment each other very well. Kessel's also done more playmaking this year, nice set up of Lupul last night and on Dion's goal in game one.

I've been as hard on Komisarek as anyone but he did lead the team in block shots again I think. I mean last year I was ready to light him on fire and toss him out the window but early on, I do think he's helping us. 4.5 mil. worth? No... and likely never but he is showing he can be useful out there I think.

Yes and inching those ice times up. Being showcased who knows but you are not going to trade a 4.5 mil cap hit dman playing 10 min per game.  He looks good out there and like any dman, will make his mistakes.

If Gardiner isn't sent down, it may even be Schenn sitting next game, not that I agree with that.

Schenn has been pretty bad so far this year.  He didn't have a good preseason and his play seems to have carried forward into the start of the year.  To make matters a little worse, his play dipped after Kaberle was traded away.  Hopefully he can get his head back in the game soon.

Komisarek really has been quite reasonable to start the year.  He's useless with the puck still, but his general defensive zone play has been much better.

It's only 3 games in, but I hope we see a little more offense from the Grabovski-Kulemin-MacArthur line to supplement Kessel.

Schenn played better before he signed for a new contract.  Would one say that his play has deteriorated
somewhat after having been signed up?  Coincidence, no?

I think one would be foolish to make such an assumption considering he's only played 3 meaningful games since signing his contract.

And as LK said, this drop in his performance appeared to begin before the contract was signed when Kaberle was traded.

That's very true. Schenn's play has been gone down since Kabs got traded. People forget that Kabs was Schenn's out with the puck and he brought this calmness to Schenn's game. That's gone right now but hopefully he matures and gets some goos chemistry with his new partner. I have no doubt that he'll pull out of it tho.

I don't think it's been a steady down turn though, as I thought Schenn had some very good games during the Leafs stretch of good play at the end of the season.

I also don't see this as something to worry about and believe that it may be that he's a bit worried to play his game, which he may think might land him in hot water with the league. Schenn is at his best when he is hitting everything that moves and I've seen him a bit tentative in that department since the season started. I'm not worried in any way though that Schenn won't turn his game around.

He was in good position, but it sure helped that Bourque shot it right at him.

He really wasn't in great position (not that it was his fault -- he was facing a big screen and it was a cross-ice pass).  Bourque had at least a 1/3 of the net to shoot at and if he had shot it in to the open net, there is no way Reimer could have stopped it.  We got lucky.

Let's face it, Reimer is a streaky goaltender.  What has he given up, like, 7 goals in a period and a half?  Extrapolate that out over a whole game and you got a guy with a 14.00 GAA.  Ugly, very ugly.  And if you take that over a whole season, he's going to give up damn near 1,000 goals if he starts 70 games.  You aren't going to make the playoffs with numbers like that!

Sure, you can nitpick that he has a 0.00 GAA the rest of the time, but hey, that's streaky too.  I - N - C - O - N - S - I - S - T - E - N- T.

Cause for concern?  I sure think so.  I hope Gus is ready to go, we will need him!!!

Well first off, I don't think Reimer "gave up" any goals last night. He had zero chance on any of them... My memory if fuzzy re. the 5 goal game. Really, goals finding the back of the net often (quite often) have little to do with who's in net.
