Game of Thrones (S6)

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Especially since she learned to heighten other senses with her temporary loss of vision.

I guess we'll have to wait for next week to really be too harsh about that. There's some theories running around that would potentially explain it.

Like getting bandaged up by the actress she saved, getting revenge and boarding a ship back to Westeros?

Anyone think the writing this week in GoT was kind of weak? Really disappointed with Arya's story arc, nothing happened with Brienne, no feature of Sansa/Snow, Daenerys shows up conveniently as Mereen is getting sieged. I'm sure I'm missing a few bits but the writing could be more clever than what we're getting.

I guess I'll see soon, was a bit occupied.  ;)

I didn't understand the mereen thing at all. Didn't they make a deal with them? Didn't they get what they want?

And the Arya thing was crap. What a load of bs. Honestly that was almost Micheal Bay level of excellence. It just needed a couple of explosions and an American flag.

I think it depends on what you mean by the writing. The show's strength has always been in dialogue and creating good interactions between characters and I thought that was still there last night.

In terms of plot, and definitely plot advancement, the show's had some serious issues now for a couple of seasons. Unless it pays off in some serious way down the line Arya's time in Bravos and the whole siege thing just felt like complete wastes of time.

Yeah. The whole Arya story line now feels like it was mostly for character development, which is great and all, but probably didn't need that much screen time.

The siege was definitely more of a minor plot development thing that probably could have been handled in a single episode. I feel like there'll be some pay off from it, but probably not enough to justify splitting it into multiple episodes.

Anti-climatic episode for the most part.

Yeah, when those ships attacked Mereen, I was like, what?

I know why they did it though.  It has the slavers all conveniently grouped together, on the water, with no escape, when dragonfire reins down.

Much like the Stannis armada.

Its time they were utterly annihilated anyway, so Danerys' plot line can finally advance to sailing onto Kings Landing and the Iron Throne, now truly having dominion over Slaver's Bay and the Dothraki.

This whole season has been a bit slow and kinda dragging on.  I mean, don't get me wrong, it's still gripping, but it seems like each episode needs to be 2hrs to really tell the story.  With only 10 episodes per season, this will take like 20+ seasons to really tell the whole story.  I hope that GOT has that kind of lifeline if it's going at this pace.

Certainly some interesting choices plot-wise. And by interesting, I mean nonsensical. What a waste of potential in some story threads.

I've really enjoyed this 'Ask the Maester' feature that the Ringer has every week:

Very interesting observation about the High Sparrow crippling his power source (Tommen) by trying to take down Cersei.

Been reading these since the Grantland days and I think I've caught up on each one.  It's essential for me.  I have no idea how he pulls these facts around so quickly week to week.  I want to believe he's mostly just an insanely encyclopedic fan.

Yeah, I never really put that together either. Although as me mentions later proving Cersei is guilty of incest and proving Tommen is a product of incest are 2 different things.

I see Tommen's incestry playing a factor (the common folk already sing that tune) as it was a huge part of the first book and an underlying motivator for much of the machinations in King's Landing. At that point the High Sparrow will have to decide between his Faith and his Power; Cersei will have to decide between her Love (Tommen is her sole surviving child) and her Power.

Fun point of meta: the actors for Tommen and Myrcella appear to be dating.

I can't speak for anyone else but personally I think the thing that seems to trip the show up is thinking that viewers are super invested in the moving of tokens across the map vs. just spending time with characters the show has invested time in.

I'd rather watch a show that was nothing but Tyrion and company sitting around telling jokes or Lena Headey and Diana Rigg throwing jabs at each other than almost never seen members of a family we're not invested in arguing about a castle.

Very true, but I'm guessing that the trial(s) will never happen.

Although, the bloody face in the Hall of Faces did provide some gratification as well.  :)

I actually sort of felt cheated by that. We get tons of Arya interacting with the actors at the play, a ton of the chase scene but none of the fight?
