I'm good with that lineup. Please, please, let McLaren sit. I don't have anything particularly against the guy, other than the fact he's not a good hockey player and seems a bit immature at times, but I just want to see this lineup play a game without a designated goon. I'd like to see a fourth line that gets 8 minutes or something; just to prove it's possible.

Ditto.

Might have an incremental impact on the rest of the forwards - ease off their minutes somewhat if a 4th line can chip in a few extra minutes, maybe we see the team finishing games stronger.  Just a thought.

Has to be a better option than Ashton on the farm? Other than one game I think he has shown nothing. Especially when he flipped that puck in crowd last game in the few minutes he played.. way to turn momentum

What I'm getting at is that it's arbitrary in that you could pick any one game in the season, run before and after stats, and you would get a different comparison.  For example, if I wanted to compare the first 2 weeks of the season with everything after that, you would see a different picture -- one that is no more or less valid, or significant.

But, it's really not arbitrary. There's a clear difference between the two periods in terms of success, whereas, with other splits, that difference is a lot more murky.

I'm sure we're talking past each other.  I'm making a general point about the significance of pointing out differences like this when the only thing that, by definition, counts is where the team finishes at the end of the season.

Well, the universe is in a constant and unceasing state of change and becoming. Why try saying anything and anything? The only thing that counts is where we finish at the end -- star dust.

I admire your introducing into the discussion the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which ultimately does control everything.  But focusing in, this is a board about NHL hockey, you know.

If I'd been more coffees into the day it would've been clearer I was aiming for Henri Bergson, by way of Deleuze.

I think the forward lines from practice look good, if arbitrary.

The Leafs lineup could use a little more elan vital.

This is coalescing nicely.

I had to look that up.

That's true.  Forgot Lupul was back.

Plus a 3rd line of McClement/Smith/Clarkson might actually work.

Raymond?

At this point I think our two best options are:

JVR-Kadri/Holland-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri/Holland-Kulemin
Raymond-Smith-Clarkson
Ashton-McClement-D'Amigo

And to Carlye's credit it looks like he's going with one of them for tonight's game.
