Goaltending conundrum

I wouldn't mind a Vokun signing, much better option than Luongo

Actually, the Czech media are bringing the Vokoun-to-the Leafs theme frequently over last couple of days. I searched through all those articles, but there is no direct quote from Vokoun himself as far as the Leafs are concerned. The only thing he says is that he feels that Washington is not going to offer him any new contract and he is just looking at the options available. He also said that at his age (36) he is not expecting any long or large contracts. He, however, sounded quite eager to give it one more shot and try to accomplish something, he does not feel like quitting hockey or leaving for Europe. Not yet.

Regardless of being his fellow countryman, I would love to see Vokoun in the blue and white. He would come cheap, he is used to play behind crappy teams, and he is quite a good personality. In the Czech national teams, he was for a decade in the shaddow of Hasek, never complained and when his time came he brilliant and was very respected by the players. By acquiring him you do not bring "baggage" or some other issues into the locker room. I also believe he could be a good mentor. Speaking of pure numbers and stats, he proved over the years to be pretty consistent and you can basically see quite precisely what you can expect from him.

I don't see why they couldn't. I doubt Allaire is even remotely as rigid as many seem to believe.

I can buy that but has Allaire ever worked with a guy like Vokoun? - Not that there's many out there like him. I mean, with Roy and Hasek being polar opposites and you put them at either end of a scale, Vokoun is clearly very deep on the Hasek end of it, no?

Perhaps, but at 36 years old, how much does he need to work with him? He won't be teaching him a new style, but rather refining things that he already does.

Yeah, I suppose if Allaire wouldn't have much to offer him on the technical side of things, there's always the mental part of it which arguably is as important.

That's just it - with a veteran guy who has played at a high level in this league for most of his career, Allaire won't be making any stylistic changes. He'll be working on the mental side of things, keeping an eye on any issues that may arise, etc.

I would love if they sign this guy.. I dont know if I could stand the fans in TO yelling LOU - every time Loungo touches the puck if he gets traded here. I live in BC, and that is one thing that makes me cringe when I have to watch a Van game.

Toronto one of the teams mentioned as possible destination for Vokoun...

Several teams could be interested in Vokoun's services this summer, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Outgoing Toronto assistant GM Rick Dudley said the franchise needs an elite goaltender. Vokoun was 25-17-2 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .917 save percentage and four shutouts last season with the Caps.

Tell me it is not true... Please no..

Considering the source, I'm inclined to believe it.  We'll wait and see.

This same source said the Canucks were close to getting Perry for Hodgson, Raymond and Ballard, so, I'm not.

How can someone confirm a trade weeks before completion? Talks could break down WELL before then.

What a moronic tweet.

Did he use "book it"? Cause then you know it's legit.

I think I caught an E5 in there.

Vokoun is now a Penguin (7th rounder) and has signed a 2 year deal so he would appear to be out of the mix as far as the leafs are concerned

This is a bad news... so we end up with Luongo horrendous contract

I would be happy with Luongo. He easily would be the best goalie in TO since Belfour. As for the contract, if the amnesty comes in with the next CBA, it won't matter. Reimer can play 25 -30 games, which should be enough to evaluate his progress, Scrivens stays in the minors and develops. Who knows, in a couple years maybe the Leafs are able to deal one of them. Rumour is that Komi goes the other way and probably a prospect or 2. Why can't we start some new posts instead of continuing on a 90 page one that hardly resembles the title?
