Goaltending Showdown - Reimer vs. Bernier

bustaheims said:
NikAitken: @mlse Since Reimer's NHL debut a goalie has made 49 saves and won a game just four times.  Three of those are Reimer. http://t.co/mCcf7l0oWR

It's also only happened 60 times in the last 25+ seasons. 28 times since the 04/05 lockout, and in of those 28, the Leafs have been involved in 6 of them - winning 4.

That is an insane stat.

Jeez, we drafted 3 of those 7 goalies. :o

We should trade Bernier and Raymond for that Scrivens guy

Reimer is playing unbelievable I must say.  With all this talk about how he is so competitive and wouldn't just role over once Bernier arrived, he really is showing this in spades.  I can't wrap my head around this shot thing either.  50 shots last night but in my eyes, the Leafs out chanced the Caps.  I am finding this on most nights.  There just are not as many point blank easy shots given up this season like say if you revert back to 2 seasons ago when we were giving up so many goals.

which is why the shots for and against thing is skewed analysis at best.

Analyses based on team shots for and against are imperfect, but empirically, it would appear they make better predictors than goals for and against.

I think maybe you believe the Leafs aren't allowing as many great chances because they're no longer going in with such frequency.  There's no way the Leafs outchanced the Caps.

Perhaps for Carlyle. Even though it wasn't Reimer's best game, that was all on the 12 players in front of him.

Every goalie lets in a few stinkers; Reimer seems to have figured out a way to gather them up and get them out of the way all in the same game, and I'm okay with that.

What matters to me is how he bounces back, and its times like this that you get a lot of mileage out of the tandem strategy.  Bernier has the next game and we'll go from there.

I know it may not be the best thing but I would come back with Reimer against Pitt. He seems to play well usually against them. I don't see Carlyle doing that though..

Bernier looks better technically but he also lets in those softies once in a while. One must admit Reimer gets better every year and that's what I see .  He's definitely #1 on some teams.

So Reimer goes from hero to goat in 48 hrs. The showdown's back on now I guess?

Nobody who watched the game last night is blaming Reimer.

Can't understand why Carlyle started Reimer against the 'Jackets in the first place.  This was a goaltender who had faced 50 shots two nights prior.  Give him a break.  Bernier should have been in instead.

sorry to be off thread here but I received an email from the host of this site as I am sure we all did.  I really agreed with the tone of the email, we have lost a huge amount of posters and I think we should all agree to email the details on this site to everyone we know whom spends some time thinking about this Team. We do need some knew blood in here a big way.
I have sent the details out to 3 people whom may join. If we all do the same we will have some fresh faces and forums and ideas to share. Just my opinion

Not surprising considering the way some people treat others on this site.

Spend some time on some other forums.  In my experience, this is FAR and away the most respectful and friendly forum I've come across.  Places like HF Boards, reddit, etc are far, far worse than the worst you'll find here.

I agree, other sites have out and out flame wars between posters.  It's like that on many internet forums to be honest.
