Horachek's impact on the team

Anyone think Dubas will hire Keefe to coach the Marlies next season?

Dineen, while not having much to work with, doesn't seem to have been a great fit.

I have a feeling the Marlies are going to have a much different look next season, including coaching and a whole lot of player changes.

Horacheck moving Kessel to 4th line at least shows he doesnt care abotu who you are much or salary

Horachek's obviously not getting the results, but one thing I will give him major credit for is that he is willing to actually follow through with decisions that typically no one would ever make.  He has:

-- Moved Kessel to the 4th line and limited his playing time.

-- Benched Clarkson.  A feat in and of itself.  Him admitting that in general, not benching Clarkson is political based on his salary, was extremely respectful.

-- Has given Rielly way more ice time and responsibility.  Phaneuf out of the lineup obviously helps that cause, but the kid is running with it and not disappointing.

-- Actually put Gardiner out there instead of Phaneuf in the last minute of the game while trying to score the tying goala few weeks back.  Going back to the political aspect, I thought a coach would never have the guts to do it based on Phaneuf's salary and letter on his jersey.

-- Has given Reimer more rope than Carlyle would have.

Some decisions he has made have been baffling -- putting Bernier back in only to see him lose that one game; Holland on the 1st PP -- but he is coaching like a man who knows will not be given a shot at the job next year and is trying to play around with the lineup, salaries, politics and stature be damned.

I'll say one thing in Horachek's defence here (since I complained about it too), I'm pretty sure Spott handles the PP duties. At least I know he and Randy did them prior to the coaching change, and considering that Horachek is still an inexperienced head coach I would imagine he's allowing Spott to take control there. Spott also had Holland in the AHL so he likely has a bit of a soft spot for him, it's possible he even experimented with Holland playing the point with the Marlies. And it thankfully only lasted a couple of games before they finally went to Rielly-Franson, which is how the top PP pairing should have looked all season long.

I am thinking that Babcock will bring in his own assistants.

Yup, Scotty Bowman and Jesus.

I could see Jesus shooting Babcock a pretty nasty look if he ever claimed to be crucified by the media.

You inspired me - so I slapped this together.

Siegel did a piece on differences in Horachek's coaching style:

Well, I guess this is a better thing to say:

"It's not fun," Clarkson said of sitting out, "but I think I've just got to go out there, work hard and prepare to get back in the lineup."

Might have been a bit coached on it.

He can't even get that right. He forget to say "have to give a 110% effort."

I actually Jake Gardiner's game has been better, a little more controlled. Still the odd gaff, but not as many.

Over the stretch since Horachek took over Gardiner is on the ice for the 2nd fewest shot attempts against per 60 minutes in the league behind only Tobias Enstrom (minimum 300 minutes).

No wonder we can't score!  Our supposed "offensive defenseman" is not helping to generate enough shots at the opposition net.  :P

(I think you missed the word AGAINST in your statement above)

Thanks!

But on that subject, while he's 19th in shot attempts for over that stretch, his CF% (shot attempts for % basically) is 4th in the league.
