Iginla Traded to Pittsburgh

Bylsma has been quoted saying that he doubts he'll break up the Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis line at the outset (they're the top scoring line in the league and are all +20 something).

The Kunitz-Malkin (close to returning from shoulder injury)-Neal line has been deadly in the past. We might see that tried later if things don't click.

My guess would be he'd try Iginla with Malkin & Neal when Malkin returns.

Morrow's really a 3rd line player now without a lot of finish so he'd probably be tried with Cooke & Sutter at the outset.

Remember when they were having a tough time finding Sid a good winger to play with? Looks like they've solved that problem big time.

I think writing Morrow's finish off is a little premature, he has very good shooting numbers I believe.
 
Rob Rossi, Pens' beat reporter, suggested on the radio today that Iginla could play on Crosby's wing and the Pens would push Kunitz back down to the Malkin line.
 
It's all sort of academic though, isn't it? I mean, they have lots of time to practice and play before the playoffs. They'll find combinations that work.

Maybe.

He may also serve as the defensive component on a top 6 line.

Some of my reasoning is based upon Bylsma's comment about keeping Dupuis on the top line with Crosby.

Between Iginla and Morrow, I think Iginla's better suited for a top 6 role vs the third line.

I don't think Morrow is likely to get as much PP ice time as he did in Dallas and that is likely to drop his shooting %. Iginla is a career .43 goals per game shooter vs Morrow at .22 goals per game. I think Crosby/Malkin would do better to set up the .43 goals per game guy. And Morrow can play more to his strength which is good defensive hockey.
 
Finally a bit of karma for the Bruins. They lucked out by dealing with
a suddenly brain-dead Burke (although we redeemed a little with the
Kabs deal - but nowhere near the same level of prospects) so this
bit of egg on the face looks mighty pleasing.
 
Chiarelli claims they had a deal at noon yesterday and was told later in the day it was Iginla's choice to go to Pittsburgh and not Boston.

IF true, you have to wonder how Feaster could essentially work out a deal with Boston without knowing for sure that Iginla would agree to that deal.  Unless Iginla changed his mind at the last moment, it looks bad on Feaster.

My guess is they will want Dupuis on the top line to be the defensive guy with Crosby and Iggy.

Morrow I think ends up on the 3rd line.

there is very little that looks good on Feaster.. figuratively, and literally.

Why did Iginla put Boston on his list of teams he would go to if in the end he decided not to?  ???

Well, saying that he only had one possible destination would have crippled his apparently already low trade value. At least this way Calgary could have used Boston's offer as a negotiating ploy with Pittsburgh, not that that worked very well.

I'd guess it was a last resort if they could get nothing from anyone else.

With the information that Boston thought that they had a done deal coming out, I can't really blame Ward. He has Boston connections so that's likely where his source came from. If anything it's the Bruins who jumped the gun by leaking the trade too early.

In fairness, he had multiple sources confirm the deal and it appears from Chiarelli's comments today, most in Boston considered the deal done until it wasn't.
