Islanders @ Leafs - Jan. 7th, 7:00pm - TSN, SN 590

If they put this much effort into the 1st period as they did in those last few minutes, they might not always have to come from behind.

Yeah it's tiring, but you only get out of hockey what you put into it.

Playing a team on the 2nd of back-to-backs after getting a "wake up call" beatdown.  Getting outscored 2-0 in the 3rd.  Getting outshot 4-3 with <5 minutes left.

Something needs to happen.  Either give up on the year, blow up the team or fire the coach.  This is embarrassing.

Uh ... they're in a playoff spot.

Only because the East has been bad for as long as it has.  They've been trending downwards out of a spot for over 2 months now.

I really believe there are many who are thrilled with that goal. Some have been against Bernier taking Reimer's job from the start because, hey, Reimer's such an "aw shucks" nice guy, nevermind Reimer's role in last year's collapse and Bernier's superior technical abilities (Bad timing for that one aside...).

Bernier goes on a stretch of three or four great games, and all you hear is complaining that Reimer didn't get a fair shake.

At this point I hope they just give the job to Reimer now and trade Bernier so we can talk about something else.

Like how Carlyle is dumb, perhaps.

I have nothing against either of them, but Bernier has sucked tonight and should have been pulled after the second goal.  Simple as that.

Goalies don't get pulled after allowing 2 goals unless they're the first two shots of the game or something.

Well, unless you want to send a message that you're trying to win the game.

Got any examples of a goalie being pulled in the 2nd after letting in a goal in a 1-1 game?

You may have missed it, but ever since they invented google people who ask questions like this are expected to answer them themselves.  Get cracking.

Seriously though they have control of the puck with the goalie pulled, just over a minute left and a blind backhand pass into the slot? Why?

They never regained possession in the offensive zone after that.

"It's a kind of magic" by Queen just came on on shuffle on my iPod. I feel that's the only answer.

Oh, they're out there.

No, they're really not. Not a single person here is happy that Bernier played poorly tonight. Not a single person was particularly vocal about Bernier starting when he was playing well. What you're seeing is people calling for equal treatment of the two goalies. When Reimer plays poorly and gets pulled, Bernier starts the next game. When Bernier played poorly and got pulled . . . Bernier started the next game, and, well, played even more poorly.

As for Bernier's "superior technical ability" . . . well, it certainly hasn't translated to much more success - if any. Reimer has a better winning % and a very similar Sv%.

^^^^^

Or this. What I wanted to say but didn't have the eloquence due to a few to many beers.

Busta is bang on.

After a bottle of wine, I'm with you. Busta is our muse.

The energy after that last goal was amazing. Frustrating!

That blind pass by Bozak that led to the Islanders clearing the zone pretty much sums up his offensive play. He plays with two great wingers so half the time stuff like that works, but that's on them not him.

I looked. It happened once in 1985, but the goalie was injured on the play.

I think someone a few game day threads ago said it would be nice if our best player could prove it and take over the game at critical moments, like great players do.

Carlyle needs to get his head out of his **s with his bs favouritism. Fab 5 are doing squat at times and he keeps throwing out there. Gardiner and Rielly would be playing more on the pp and I would rather have the 2 of them out there than Franson and Phaneuf who make some boneheaded decisions. Never seen so much panic with some of their decisions. Bozak with the dumb no look pass from the corner killed any comeback.

I thought he was absolutely awful this game, despite scoring a goal. Twice he was fed the puck, alone, in the slot, and twice, while alone, in the slot, he passed into the freaking corner. He had a ton of giveaways too (trying to skate through 4 guys on the PP, blind passes, soft in the defensive zone). He was also the worst on the draw out of all the centres so naturally that means he had the most icetime out of any forward (21minutes).

Bernier was the difference in the game tonight. It was just the wrong difference. It should have been Reimer in net. Why was it not REIMER?? >:(

IMO
The reason the leafs lost is because Bernier let in two soft goals in. The better start Reimer on Thursday.

Because Carlyle is mean and hates him.
