Leafs @ Canucks - Dec. 10th, 10:00pm - SNO, Fan 590

Would have been nice for Tavares to finish the hat trick, but Hyman's the next best option since I'm pretty sure he didn't get assists on the other two goals.

Basically didn?t even touch the puck but shepherd dogged the play into our favour as usual.

Take the 2 points but can thank Andersen but this team needs to learn how to play defence. Absolutely brutal and has been for a long time. I don?t get how we haven?t improved in that area.

Well, nice to see the Leafs get a solid win. Now to take a big drink of water and make sure the Yankees didn't do anything in free agency.

On the upside the Jays signed a guy who stunk in the minors and the. Had his peripherals all jump after playing in the Mexican league.  Absolutely not PED related at all

This is just a sign that the players are getting comfortable

Hmmm. Tempt fate much?

Happy for the win and I was chirping some Nucks fans in the first and second, but we are completely screwed on most nights if we play like we did in the third. That D is so ridiculously porous. I mean, couldn't they try some gap control at the line? We're lucky to get away with 2 pts without having to go to OT to get the extra point.

Glad to read this, because whenever I see Andersen as the MotM by a wide margin, I wonder how/when they hung him out to dry again.

So it was the third period with a lead this time?

It wasn't so much that the Leafs hung Andersen out to dry (and for much of the game, that was not the case); it's just that when Vancouver stormed through on occasion, Andersen snuffed out their attack and made it look pretty easy. He got lucky on a couple of misses high and wide but was visibly dialed in and seeing almost all of what the Canucks were chucking.

Standout saves were all the Brock Boeser cherrypickings that got snared.

Just watched the game in 6.  That empty net goal was hilarious, Hyman all by himself, 3 Canucks in the zone and they somehow give him the puck for the goal.

Watching the highlights, I did notice that 2 of the 3 breakaways in the 3rd period, the Canucks forward was cherry picking quite a bit.  But yeah, as a Leafs D-man with a 1-goal lead, you have to be aware of that.

They should have done better but when the other team is trailing in the third they're going to cheat for chances and will occasionally succeed.

This is sort of indicative of the way people talk about the team though. If the Leafs fall into a shell to try and stop those high danger chances they'll get criticized for "taking their foot off the pedal", if they don't then it's "you can't let the other team get big chances with a lead".

Basically, people here won't be satisfied unless the Leafs play absolutely perfect hockey night in and out for 60 minutes and, unfortunately, this isn't a perfect team.

Andersen was first star of the game, and the Canucks had 39 shots on goal.

No need to overgeneralize, many "people here" can see there's room for improvement on the defensive side of the puck without looking for perfection.

Yeah, but to let it happen 4 times?  I mean, after the first one you'd think they'd have at least one of the D back there being non-activated, or whatever the term is.

Andersen was spectacular.

It's a fair point Frank. Being as last night was my first night posting on this message board it's a pretty reasonable assumption that my comment was strictly limited to last night's game.
