Leafs @ Capitals - Jan. 3rd, 7:00pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

Well, that's a combination of unfortunate and just a really nice bit of patience and finish from Oshie. Could have scored a couple of times on that PP as well

This Brown, he is not spoken of in the same reverential tones as some of the others.  Why.

Well until the last few weeks he largely played on either the 4th line or on a defensive line with Kadri, so playing with Matthews has really helped show off his offensive game in a way he couldn't before.

I think we should also remember that Brown's turning 23 years old in a week and a half and definitely would have been a NHL player last season if that team had a different mandate. He's a very mature "rookie".

We now know that goal scorers peak at 23, so we'd better turn him loose before dumping him at the deadline.

Having one defenseman out there can bite you.

It bit them on the shift just before that too, when they just blindyy swung it around the boards on the far side to relieve the pressure because Gardiner could only cover the near side.

Oshie made a beautiful move to cut into the middle and outwait Andersen.

This game is a demonstration why goal stats are not reliable short term statistics for long term prediction. Broken stick change up for a tap in. You don't get these types of lucky bounces unless you're directing shots at the net routinely.

Edit: also, breakout pass on the expiration of a penalty, penalty killer falling down for no reason (Gauthier) leading to an uncontested shot...

"The Goat's on fire"?  Not sure I can endorse that image.

That's probably true. I think there are people who confuse "isn't necessarily predictive" with "aren't a single game measure of quality" though.
