Leafs @ Coyotes - Dec. 23rd, 9:00pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Even though the record difference isn't substantial, the games this year have had a different dynamic with the leafs goaltending not spotting the opposition a soft goal every game.

We sweep a B2B?  A great miracle happened here.

Well, it's time to haul out the menorah and set 'er up under the tree next to the mini-creche.

Yeah, at some point we're going to need to talk about Tyler Bozak naming his son Kanon.

He named him after Phil Kessel's shot, it made him a millionaire.  ;)
If the Leafs can sustain that miracle in the next back to back over Florida and Tampa they'll leapfrog both teams

Heading down to the game tonight, getting really pumped to see the new and improved Leafs. Seems there is a buzz in the city as well.  Hopefully they will repeat the feat of last night and Matthews will score 4 more. :)

Expecting minute to minute reports: Man in front of me coughed. Price of corndog $5.95US. Things of that nature.

Ok I mentioned the $20 dollar doubles, my wife and I have two each, so the price of 4 drinks almost equaled the cost of one of the seats, LOL. Some reflections on last night:  Matthews of course is the real deal, but from what I saw he needs to improve his face-offs, I didnt see him win one last night.  Conner Brown in the first period was the best Leaf player, but Komarov and Anderson were my picks at the end of it.  Kadri played a strong game as did Gardiner. Thought Carrick skated well.  Rielly is a concern, he endlessly gave the puck away forceing him to make great retrievals. Zaitzev is very steady, what a pick up for us.  Hyman is a worker, that is for sure, always seemed to be in front of us, digging the puck out.  Nylander was floating for most of the game, took a stupid penalty, but his goal was a beauty and as it was number 4, it let us escape the building and beat the traffic to the 101 Loop (so he gets personal marks from me for the that  :))
Anderson really impressed with his poise and patience, best Leaf goalie since Cujo. Hope he can keep up the stellar work.
Now onto the Goat; Freddie played a very steady game, he now has a goal and assist in the last two games and he had somewhat of a chance in this game to score. He moves up and down the ice very well for such a big man and he uses his frame and reach to great advantage. He also has a lot of poise when he gets the puck and did some chip outs instead of trying to fire the puck every time. So speed is not an issue.  I would like to see him get a lot more games to make a better assesment but think he may be our 4th line guy after all.

Crowd was larger than any other Yotes game I have attended. I was a bit pissed that they didnt make a bigger deal of Auston coming home, no annoucment of his family, nothing except an in arena interview with his coach when he was a kid during the second intermission.
Sweater count;  Hundreds of generic Leaf Jerseys,  12 Austin Matthews, 5 Tie Domi, 2 Dave Keon, 2 Sundin,  1 Ian White (LOL, must have been his Mom), but the best was a guy sitting in the next row from me, #1 Bower with Johnnys signature right on the #1 on his back. Man I wanted to have that sweater.

Final notes: guy in front of me wearing a Matthews shirt brings a baby to the game, and doesnt sing the anthem, that pissed me off. Also had to thank the folks behind us who brought 3 kids between 4 and 7, all coughing all over the place and basically letting them run like crazy screaming kidz behind us.  I can already feel the cold coming on. Perhaps they should put the age 8 rule into effect. I can tell you these kids were not watching the game.  What every happened to parenting??

haha thanks for the in-arena report Highlander! Great nugget about that signed Bower jersey. Careful not to get mugged!

Some of the broadcast highlights:

Definitely lots of Matthews coverage and commentary, connection with minor hockey, interviews with his family and Boris coach.

Commenting a lot on Doan's 1500th game and legacy, and then a nice commentary on his 400th goal, everyone clapping during delay.

Talked about Mike Smith's puckhandling skills a lot, he stoned Auston on the third period two-on-one and again point blank. Played very well on the broadcast.

Why can't all post-game reports be this thoughtful?  I learned more from this report than all of press reports combined.  I especially liked the commentary on the crowd.  Thanks Highlander!

I still can't believe we pulled off a dominant back-to-back sweep on the road.

Still euphoric.

And to top it off today, my wife agreed to go to her first live Leafs game with me at the CENTENNIAL CLASSIC!

Just booked online. The fact that we're on a plane from Toronto airport to the Dominican the very next morning probably helped. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!

Truer words were never spoken and thanks for the insightful game review.
