Why can't all post-game reports be this thoughtful?  I learned more from this report than all of press reports combined.  I especially liked the commentary on the crowd.  Thanks Highlander!

That's what I say too. Well done H.

Not that many actual game attendees is one answer.

I still can't believe we pulled off a dominant back-to-back sweep on the road.

Still euphoric.

And to top it off today, my wife agreed to go to her first live Leafs game with me at the CENTENNIAL CLASSIC!

Just booked online. The fact that we're on a plane from Toronto airport to the Dominican the very next morning probably helped. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!
Thanks for the kind comments from all, glad to share and I will take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the Christmas season and better things for the New Year.  Always remember that health, not wealth is the most important thing in your life, so you all look after yourselves.
[/quote  Thanks for your comments on the game....kids out of order would bug me as well not to mention the coughing.

The Leafs Matthews and the Coyotes Doan...a special night for both.  Here's Matthews after the game, oommenting on the happenings of the evening that had been:

Plus...
"We won", Matthews said.  "That's the most important part. That's definitely what I'll remember."

Three cheers to you, Mr. Matthews!

I'm still wondering why the guy with a baby was supposed to sing the national anthem..
Sorry Andy, I am old school, he is a Canadian in a foreign country, we should all sing to our country and be proud of it. I even sing the US Anthem out of respect.  I could be wrong on this and probably am.

Singing the anthem is a personal choice, and should remain as such. He's not under any obligation to sing it. That's part of the whole "freedom" thing. As long as he was respectful while it was being played,  he's good.

Yea that's what I was thinking. I rarely sing the anthem and I don't see why that should "piss" someone off.

they should stand up and remove caps. I agree. But I have different reasons why>

Uncle, you win, I am wrong. Its a choice, my viceral reaction was after 720 ML of Sake and a double Bacardi and Tonic?..poor excuse.  :-[

However in saying that, I am proud to announce that the Canadian Anthem was sung as loud as the U.S anthem and guess what, some Americans were singing our song.  To each his own.

Don't worry about it Highlander, you went out of your way to give us all a long eyewitness report from the game. Your little pet-peaves are allowed to come with it. No need for an explanation.

Can't be sure where I picked up this cold, but my suspecion is the spluttering coughing cacophony behind us in the form of 4 out of control kids may have been the source. What do to but sit in and have more eggnog?

I'd be pretty ok if they got rid of anthems before games all together. It's entertainment, not a state function. They're private businesses, not civic institutions. We don't stand for the anthem before movies.

Likewise, it seems that for every good moment it creates there's just as many moments of controversy surrounding it where people use it as an excuse to push an agenda or take hyperactive offense to any perceived slight.

If you want to engage in Nationalism, watch Team Canada. Otherwise, cut out the nonsense.

Thats your opinion and we are all entitled to our own wrong opinions. I don't think the anthems are going away any time soon and I sing all anthems when I hear them, doesnt matter what country (if I know the words).
I tend to think the German and French anthems are among the best.  Swaziland not so much.

Now if you happen to have a link were I can watch Team Canada down here I would love to see them.

Coming from Belfast, when it was decided to have a pro team here one of the decisions made was to have a cross community feel to the organisation so it appealed to those from both protestant and Catholic background. So I'm entirely used to not having an anthem and I definitely prefer it. The warm up finishes, teams head off, lights drop, intro video goes and game starts. No need to stop and faff for an anthem

Oddly, I can remember not standing up for the anthem at movie theatres when I was a kid and getting yelled at.

I remember yelling at you, you disrespectful little maverick.

Oh my god they used to play anthems at the movie theatre?

What I find amusing is that, in international competitions, where the anthem would actually represent the teams, they only play the winner's anthem after the game. Nothing before.

I don't think we'd really lose anything if they stopped with the anthems before games, but, I also know it's not going to happen. It's very much part of American culture.
