Bingo. Part blame on Carlyle, part blame on Reimer. He gives up far too many soft goals. Someone buy him a glove hand.

Sadly, hes never ever had one, but made it this far.... think about that

His confidence is totally shot. He can't take criticism, instead of responding to a small challenge by the coach he folds up. This was his chance to show he's a #1, Bernier is injured and he knows there won't be any quick hooks in games, yet he still flopped.

Why do people act like they can be armchair sports psychologists?  "He can't take criticism" absolutely no idea whether that is true or not.  He faced criticism last season and battled Tuukka Rask to the end in the playoffs.

It's ridiculous to be honest.  You have no idea about his state of mind.

and yet..just like magic..no goals let in after reimer leaves the game....even if you don't put this on reimer . ..which okay..i get you ..fine ..defend him until the end of days...but sometimes you change the goalie to change the dynamic of the game ..and it did ...the leafs ended up getting back within one...but Carlyle didn't choose to do that ...he decided to change things after it was too late..and for what?  what was the benefit of letting reimer get scored on again?  so that he'll be chased out of town by rabid leaf fans?  because it sure as hell wasn't to win the game.

Or it could just be that the Devils went into the typical New Jersey defensive shell after they scored the 3rd goal. I mean, it's not like the Leafs were suddenly getting a lot of chances. The Devils still controlled the puck, they just stopped pressing the issue, because that's how the Devils have played for 20 years now.

well clearly we disagree...which is fine ..  it's just too bad that our season ends like this..twice in the span of 3 years...

What's amazing is that in 11-12 the fans were yelling for Wilson to be fired, yet this time it seems like the fan's are all against Reimer.  Doesn't make sense.

Can't it be both? Randy doesn't have them dealing, but Reimer came in at a crucial time of year with something to prove and has lost something like 6 starts in a row, playing generally terribly. He absolutely deserves his fair share of the blame alongside Randy.

Of course, he'll tell everyone who'll listen that he "played pretty well" and his agent will accuse fans of having it out to get him. Poor, poor James Reimer.

He said he thought he played well in one game.  I don't think Reimer's to blame, it's a tough situation having not played much in so long then expected to carry the team (because that's what Leafs goalies have to do) - 5 games is such a short stretch of time in the scheme of a goalie's minutes, I can't blame Reimer for how this season has turned out.  It's the team/coach's fault for having themselves in a position where a 5 game losing streak knocks them out of the playoffs.  Not on this one guy who hasn't played most of the season.

Fine. But its alright to understand why others are doing so. They were sitting in 3rd place before the collapse. I'd hardly call that a horrible season prior to the Reimer show.

Minnesota won in OT, but Detroit still gets a point.

No important games tomorrow, so heading into Tuesday:

Detroit 80 (11 games)
Toronto 80 (9 games)
---
Washington 79 (10 games)
Columbus 78 (11 games)

Tuesday features:
Toronto vs. St. Louis
Detroit vs. Columbus
Washington vs. Los Angeles

In a league with overtime points, five regulation losses in a row is enough to put a serious dent in any team's chances of making the playoffs. Remember that season with Wilson when we were winless in our first 6 or 7 games of the season and the season was done? Even in that stretch we managed to grab a few points.

Reimer can absolutely be blamed for not doing his part this season, and in particular this recent group of games.  If I had to guess I'd say he doesn't start another game in Toronto.

Fair enough. I do know he was outplayed by an AHL goalie tonight though.

Sure, that's fair.  I don't think they faced the same quality of chances, but he was outplayed regardless.

I'd be hard pressed to agree to that when the AHL goalie faced a team that had gone into a defensive shell the organization has been using for 20 years and Reimer faced a team that was pressing to create the lead that allowed them to play that defensive shell.

All those teams have games in hand. Scary. We could clean the slate and still be outside looking in when all is said and done.

He actually made a couple of good stops that Reimer probably would have let in the way he's been playing.

Shot totals by period for NJ: 7, 8 and 9 in the third.

Edit: am not disagreeing with you..just putting the shot totals out there.

Yeah, but, really, I counted maybe 2 difficult stops for MacIntyre and I don't remember him having to face a single odd man rush.

jonasTSN1050: Bozak on Reimer: "We haven?t helped him out one bit. Obviously it?s easy to pick on the goalie when things are going bad for a team."

Some believe that James Reimer just isn't the same goattender ever since he got concussed.  Seems to have had rebound trouble,  poor glove catches, and more 'soft' goals  post-concussion.

Ah it must be late March. We are at each other's throats arguing over which component of our underachieving on-the-bubble team sucks the most and why the coach is a g/d idiot.

That's 2 more difficult stops than Reimer made tonight.

If everyone would just agree that Reimer is the problem, we would all just get along fine.
