Ah it must be late March. We are at each other's throats arguing over which component of our underachieving on-the-bubble team sucks the most and why the coach is a g/d idiot.

If everyone would just agree that Reimer is the problem, we would all just get along fine.

I think virtually everyone agrees that RC is lousy though. That counts for something.

Shot totals by period for NJ: 7, 8 and 9 in the third.

Edit: am not disagreeing with you..just putting the shot totals out there.

Yeah, but, really, I counted maybe 2 difficult stops for MacIntyre and I don't remember him having to face a single odd man rush.

Yeah, here's the thing though, even if he'd let in three goals, his stats would still be better.

Well, as relative meaningless theoretical arguments go, that's certainly one of them.

Well, I didn't watch the game.  I did watch the game in 6.  The highlights showed:

* first goal: 2-on-1
* interlude: Reimer stops break-away
* second goal: break-away
* a quality scoring chance between the dots

Reimer didn't play great in those highlights but he wasn't an embarrassment.  It kind of looked like normal scoring chances + goals ensued.  I mean it wasn't like when Bernier was scored on from the offensive zone by Carolina.

I said last season that Reimer saved Carlyle's job. He's probably going to do the same thing this season too but for different reasons.

He was better by three goals. It's a simple fact.

It's not really a fact because he didn't face the same shots that Reimer faced. There's no way of knowing how MacIntyre would have done facing the plays Reimer faced or vice versa. He didn't allow 3 goals, sure, but, that's as far as the facts go.

His inability to make up for the play of the team in front of him is certainly creating a nice narrative for those in the front office that may be Carlyle supporters, but, my expectation is that Nonis will see through it. There's a mountain of evidence on one side and a bad week and a half on the other.

Yeah, we've had this talk before. If he gets fired I'll owe you a beer.

Well, that's what we're dealing when we're talking theoreticals. Reimer and MacIntyre may have played the same team, but they didn't face the same quality of chances. For 20 years, the Devils have sat back once they've taken the lead, only taking easy opportunities or counter-attacking after mistakes. At the end of the day, Reimer wasn't great, but, he didn't cause the 2 on 1s. He didn't cause the breakaways. He didn't cause the porous defensive coverage that allowed the Devils skate around the defensive zone untouched. MacIntyre didn't face those things to the same degree, making it awfully difficult to compare the two performances. Reimer wasn't good, but I just can't agree that MacIntyre was better, because, he wasn't really tested. I also can't put the blame on Reimer when the real problem with the team tonight (and just about every other night) was the way they played defensively in front of their goaltender.

You are one of the very few that keep letting Reimer off the hook during this losing streak. You've gone down every path of blame expect the obvious one. Even my seven year old can tell you why the Leafs are losing games right now....#stickingwithmystory

Cool. I look forward to my victory beer.

He's now been coach of a team that blew a 4-1 lead in 10:00 (or however long it was, specifics don't matter) and a 9 point playoff cushion to Detroit in 10 days.

I think Reimer is done in Toronto.  I don't know how he can come back after how things are blowing up right now.  Sad to see him go as I'm sure he will rebound elsewhere.

Yeah was Busta a Raycroft apologist too.  Reimer isn't a bad goalie but he isn't playing well right now.  His confidence is shot and the team cannot afford to give him another start.

Good to see there's still fans following.  I said they wouldn't be competitive until Tucker's buy-out came off the sheets, and I'll say it again... except this time with David Clarkson.  Don't expect to live to see the Leafs do anything good.  The Leafs manage their hockey club worst then Rob Ford runs Toronto.
