Leafs @ Devils - Mar. 23rd, 7:00pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

So this team has been playing unbelievably bad all year (can barely clear their zone, no basic idea of how to play fundamental hockey, getting outshot 2-1) yet was getting bailed out game in and out by hall of fame goaltending. Didn't we all say that that couldn't possibly last and that that was a very dangerous thing to be relying on for wins?

And Reimer, who is playing the part of a back-up goalie, is suddenly supposed to leap of the bench and become Dominik Hasek? Maybe this team should figure out how to complete a simple defensive zone break-out first before we blame Reimer for missing the playoffs.

I was? That's news to me. I may not have been as hard on him as others, but I was by no means a Raycroft apologist.

I'm hardly letting him off the hook. I've said a number of times that he hasn't played well recently. I just seriously disagree with the idea that he's the main reason the team has been losing recently. To me, the obvious path of blame is the thing that has been an issue for this team all season finally catching up to them - their poor defensive play and terrible coverage in the defensive end.

How ironic, that the Leafs believed their 1A, 1B goalie approach would insure them against a prolonged losing streak if one of their goalies went down. We won't have a repeat of Scrivens!

Be HONEST. At the trade deadline, you were A-OK that the Leafs didn't trade Reimer. You all though he was the insurance policy against this result if Bernier got injured. Ha ha ha, we all said to ourselves, smugly.

Right now, we'd do ANYTHING to have had Scrivs the past five games, because we probably would have won two of them. 

Instead, we get a disaster in James Reimer of epic proportions.

That epic which will see our AHL goaltender, who isn't any damned good, start against the St. Louis Blues. In a game TML has to win - and won't.

Leafs Management didn't see it coming; fans didn't see it coming. Leafs players sure as hell didn't. Nobody did. Not THIS bad.

Yet Reimer has laid an egg - and a shovel of dirt over this 2014 Leafs team.

I just wanted the Leafs to make the playoffs and maybe get to Round 2. I just wanted to believe for a week. Just ONE week. Is that asking too much?

Evidently, yes.

Heartbreaking team.

Unfortunately, this has become all too common with social media, exposing a dark, angry underbelly of the world. Give everyone a keyboard and the illusion of anonymity and let the venom flow. :(
 
What's funny, is although I've been on the fence about Carlyle the entire season on whether or not he should be fired, I put the Reimer fiasco directly on his shoulders. For the first time I'm completely in the 'Fire Randy' camp.

The comment of "He was ok, just ok" after the Red Wings game was such an idiotic comment to make. Even if he didn't mean it as an insult towards Reimer game he should know full well that the media will take it and spin it that way. He should know full well that the ridiculous Toronto media is going to ask Reimer about it. They want to cause controversy...it sells papers.

Reimer has been mediocre at best for the past week but coach Carlyle should carry the brunt of the blame for that. Rob a goalie of his confidence and you're in trouble. Rob a goalie you've already designated as your back up and have started sparingly over the last 3 months and he doesn't have a hope in heII.

Also, if Bernier was hurting going into the LA game, and he's carried your season thus far - maaaaybe you don't play him.

Don't worry man, he's just day to day. Certainly not week to week.

edit: But in all seriousness I'm a little surprised more people aren't crucifying Carlyle for this. If Bernier doesn't start that game he gets an extra 3 days rest (maybe even more if Reimer goes against Washington as well) and we're probably not in this mess.
