Leafs @ Penguins - Feb. 18th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

That's a tough goal. You'd like Andersen to stop that but the bounces aren't going our way and it somewhat flukily gets through.

As Apollo said in Rocky III "it's over. It's all over"
To Rocky: "WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU ROCK!!?"

They let in a tipped point shot and a goal on a Crosby setup that like 3 guys in the world could make. Not much to do there.

I'm kind of not understanding why Timothy was pulled out of the lineup.  Maybe the advanced stats say otherwise but I liked the way he was playing.

He's only averaging 9:50 a team at 5-on-5 in the 6 games since his call-up. His CF% is 46.15 and xGF% is 38.89. He's also playing very sheltered (and as I said limited) minutes. I wouldn't exactly read a ton into those numbers right now, especially the xGF, because of the limited sample. But still the limited and sheltered minutes make it clear Keefe doesn't exactly have a ton of trust in him right now. Just for comparison's sake in the 6 games before his injury Ceci was playing 16:28 a game.

The other issue here could be how PK minutes have been doled out since Ceci's injury:

Holl 3:41
Muzzin 3:20
Dermott 1:46
Sandin 0:44
Liljegren 0:36
Barrie 0:15

Swapping Marincin, who can play 2+ minutes on the PK, for Liljegren will help relieve the top pairing of some minutes and take that responsibility off of Sandin.

This makes some sense.  I don't agree with it, though, and I'm no Marty-hater.  This is the year to let 37/38 play in meaningful games and let them make mistakes and learn from them.

Said that weeks ago. Marincin sucks and no clue what he's doing still on this team. Let the 2 young swedes play the rest of the season. Teams not going anywhere. Good year to get some games and valuable experience.
Start trading anything you can get something for picks, prospects etc.
Make some good changes over the summer and plan for next year.

I'd like our Dman to actually block the guy out.

This team is bad.  I don?t know how you fix this mess
2 bad individual plays. Holl and Marincin who should have just watched Sandin blocking a man out properly.

There have been quite a few more, but they didn't result in goals.

D men don't block anyone out. Sandin had one guy in front of the net Marincin standing in the slot doing sweet F all. Either block the shot or take the guy that's open.

Seems like a weird technicality if you're concerned about high sticks that lifting another guy's stick so it hits his own face is ok.

A similar technicality in that as part of that same play he whiffs his stick barely missing Muz's face right before then having his stick lifted into his face. "A high stick is only a high stick if it makes contact" is not really protecting players a whole lot more.

That's what I said. That goal is on him regardless of the turnover. Don't know why they pulled Liljegren. I'd rather live with his mistakes then Marincin's.

Time to sell
Looks like it might be. Easy to see the Penguins are at a different level than this Leaf team.
Dubas has to think about it.  It?s difficult to imagine that even if they limp in they can win around.  They are significantly outclassed by each of Boston, Tampa, Pitt and Washington.
