Did that graphic seriously suggest that Orr has 68 penalty minutes this year that aren't from fighting majors? Because that's...not good.

66, but, to be fair to Orr, 50 of those are from misconduct penalties. He's only been called for 8 minor penalties - though, considering his ice time, that's still not good.

Ah. I figured I was forgetting something.

I realize that we are getting our asses handed to us in all areas of the game, but this one really exposes how weak Rielly and Gardiner are in our own end.  Gardiner especially gives the puck up a lot.

Well other than Gretzky name me one. Lemieux took the body, Crosby, Ovechkin take the body. Orr played hard. Sure you have some that were soft but to some extent they battled for the puck and hard. If you watch Kessel he never stops and rubs someone out to get the puck. He usually skates by the player and tries to free or knock the puck loose. Terrible.

Lidstrom wasn't particularly physical. Neither was Robitaille. Or Gartner. I don't recall Brett Hull being a guy who got particularly involved in the physical side of the game. It's not something Jagr does a lot of. Lafleur wasn't big on it either, neither was Ron Francis. Lemieux used his size to his advantage on offence, but absolutely did not do so defensively. Crosby is very much in that mould, as well.

I'm not saying they played a hard hitting game or crash and bang play like Colton Orr but they would make body contact at least. Do I wanna see Kessel get hurt? No but I would like to see him fight at retrieving pucks off an opposition player. It's downright embarrassing what I see on a nightly basis. Has he played better defensively no doubt. Comes back for the most part but it's the play along ghsboards where he's brutal.

"Crash and bang" were the exact words you used to describe what made great players great.

You know, yeah, we would like that but what he has been doing is working. I think we have to live with the fact he's not all things to all people.

That was awesome from Clarkson...he floated into a perfect screen of Reimer and took noone.

Yeah, again, the idea that Mario Lemieux "took the body" as a defensive player just really isn't true. He was one of the least physical, least defensively involved players ever.

Yep, I'm going to bed.

EDIT: I'd like to add first, though, that I've been saying for a long time that Reimer is at his best when he's been playing for a long stretch.  He doesn't do well going in cold like this.

Man, I sure would prefer Mike Brown to Orr or McLaren.

I think Brown was with Nonis in Vancouver and Anaheim as well as Toronto.  Skates, hits and tries to score.  Kills penalties.

Orr has been useless as a fighter this year which I never thought would happen. he must get waived.

McLaren has fought all the other teams super heavyweight goons.  Some of those goons pounded Brown which could have career ending.

Bodie has only 9 pims in the AHL this year.  Like Ashton, fighting is NOT his acumen.  Why both those players are used as fighters by Carlyle is disappointing.
