"Word on the street", that's quite the solid evidence there.

.. and I didn't say there was any solid evidence.  Just said something could be happening because twitter is going a little nuts.

Twitter goes "nuts" over anything. One guy from a paper tweets something, a bunch of people pick up on it and retweet and suddenly you have an event. Doesn't make it true. Maybe there's something there, we've heard multiple sources suggest Florida is in the running, but I don't think twitter exploding means a deal is imminent.

If FLA gives anything close to a 1st rounder for Luongo, I'd be glad we weren't in the running.

Looks like it is the same guy on twitter who said Luongo would be a Leaf by July 1st who's reporting the trade to Florida.

And now back to drinking.

Hi sunshine! We missed you.

Ok I'm ready to take all these giblet heads on twitter who might be Luongo, pretending to be Luongo or pretending to a source who breaks Canucks trades and give them the old head in the flushing toilet treatment.

Gillis is simply negotiating by himself on NHL 12, unfortunately, the Panthers decline the deal there also...

Tallon also said that while he did talk with Vancouver, the reports of his interest in Luongo were "pure speculation". I really don't think Florida is all that interested.

FLORIDA/VANCOUVER TRADE CONFIRMED.

It has been confirmed that Florida and Vancouver completed a trade for Roberto Luongo on June 24.

The year was 2006.

From the sounds of things, thanks in part to Gillis' negotiating tactics, no team appears to be all that interested.

Gillis went to the Tobias F?nke School of Promotion.

It's quite fascinating. Based on the information he has, it sounds like he's either unwilling or unable to adapt to the fact that no team appears willing to pay anywhere close to the price that he's set on Luongo. And, now that Brodeur may be hitting the open market, he risks losing another potential suitor, limiting his options that much more. This may not end up blowing up in his face, but, I'd say the fuse has certainly been lit.

Brodeur signing somewhere else would open New Jersey as a trading partner.

In theory, sure, but a big part of the reason Brodeur might leave the Devils is their ownership group has had some financial issues. I highly doubt that they'll take on an expensive, long-term commitment over Brodeur - a player who would probably take less real dollars for a season or two than what Luongo is set to earn.

Maybe Gillis is really serious about keeping both of them if he doesn't get his king's ransom.

To which I say: rotsa ruck, Shaggy.
