Maple Leafs in the market for a new Goalie

You bet, Lou needs to be looking at getting us some real goaltending!  Bernier isn't the answer IMHO.

He isn't the answer, no. But more importantly, what is the question? Ultimately, they need to look for a long term solution and that's going to be hard to come by. It may have to come through the draft.

So social media blew up this morning after some comments by Bernier regarding that goal: "It wasn't game 7 of the playoffs. Thank God."

Some people took it as a shot at Reimer, some have said he was more pointing out that he's thankful that it didn't come in a critical game.

In other goaltending news, on the rumors of the Leafs targeting Malcolm Subban.

Also, regarding Reimer, if you take out the periods when he has been dealing with recovering from concussions. Is it arguable that his numbers are actually above average for an NHL starter?

Looking past the bit about Subban, I'll seriously never understand people and their feelings towards minor league goalies. Calling former Leaf Chris Gibson a 1B? Suggesting that we trade a "Kapanen/Brown player" or a high draft pick for goalies whose resume's aren't all the different than someone like Bibeau or Sparks? Pure lunacy.

Subban has looked awful so far this year.  Got into his first NHL game and gave up 3 goals on 6 shots.  He has an .850 SV% this year in Providence.

i guess i could understand picking up a veteran goalie for a year or 2.... ( to try to win ? )...but nothing big...it's just not the time.

Yeah, but he's still the kind of guy you take a flyer on. A lot of goalies don't look great in their first run and sometimes struggle with the lack of predictability on routine plays that comes from the lower skill level in the AHL.

I could be wrong, but I think he is referencing him as a potential 1B, which might still be a stretch.

I mostly posted it for the Subban stuff though, the rest all seems rather fanciful, especially when he starts talking about trade scenarios.

As others have mentioned, there is still time to draft and develop a goalie of their own if it's going to cost them an unreasonable price to get a prospect via trade.

I mean it's pretty laughable that all those prospects are so highly thought of in terms of value by the author when there are numerous NHL calibre goalies that don't have a starting job that you could go out and get for a mid-range pick while you wait for yours to develop.

Not that the Leafs need another stop-gap with Reimer and Bernier right now.

Sure, if the price is good.  I'm not sure that a guy like Subban comes cheap enough to be worth it.

Bernier is nowhere near clever enough to make a veiled insult like that.

I think Bernier is completely capable of saying something as obtuse as "not game 7".  Just more examples of mental weakness that he already admits he has.  This dude is toast in the manner of Vesa and Raycoft.  Get a Beach Ball pals and tell your kidz not to shoot it at you.

to bad I wanted Bernie to be our saviour at one time.

Not sure if it was mentioned anywhere but congrats to Reimer on his third star of the week award last week. That's pretty good going.

Well Reimer can honestly say at least he has played in a game 7, Bernier always been on the bench for the playoffs

What the heck, I'm going to be the first to predict that Reimer ends up a Vezina finalist this year.  Not necessarily because I actually think it's going to happen.  It's just that it seems that every year there's always one goalie that's just completely out-of-the-blue crazy good, and, hey, why not James Reimer this year?
