CarltonTheBear said:I was never crazy about the Dineen promotion. The Marlies are the best coaching gig in the entire AHL. It should be a position that the Leafs use to recruit the best possible coaching option out there. Giving it to somebody just because they've been a good soldier for the team as an assistant coach seems like a poor option.
Keefe obviously makes a lot of sense for next season.

Nik the Trik said:How do you figure that? Seems to me that the best AHL coaching gig would be the one that offers the best chance at advancement and while the Leafs seem to have put together some decent AHL talent it strikes me as unlikely that it would be at the top of anyone's list.

I think that just being the coach of the Marlies gives you a lot more exposure than most teams. Particularly when you're labeled an "up and coming coach". Toronto obviously doesn't exactly cover the AHL all that much, but you still get more media attention than most if not all other cities.
Then there's just the fact that it's been said multiple times that the Marlies have resources at their disposal that rival some NHL teams. And I'd imagine that the Leafs would be willing to pay their AHL coaches a little more than some other organizations would.
