Men's Olympic hockey

The Czechs are certainly getting a free pass at waterskiing behind every Slovak player right now.

I noticed that.

Ping off the crossbar.

And Slovakia gets a slashing penalty for one of the weakest slashes I have every seen to break a stick.  The stick broke at the glove of the Czech player as he tried to shoot.  Absolutely nowhere near where the slash happened.

One could argue that the officiating in the 3rd may have made a difference, with the Czechs getting away with a lot of hooking, but one slash effectively ends it.

Not that I care who plays the US, but I'm thinking that the Czechs might give them a different show than the slovaks.

Latvia makes it 3-1 with an empty netter.

Will be Canada-Latvia tomorrow.

I am extremely disappointed. My family's from Switzerland and I've been there a handful of times. C'mon Swiss! Latvia, seriously?! C'mon!

Canada will blow Latvia out like an offshore Baltic gale.  Unless Price pulls a Tommy Salo, of course.  8) :o

Yeah I can't see an upset happening here.  Canada wins by 6 goals minimum.

Let's hope they dont give the Canadians any problems. A win against Latvia would essentially give Canada a shot at a medal, whether they win or lose the semi final.

Edit: I know no Canadian wants to think about this team coming home with a bronze, but unless the unthinkable happens tomorrow, at the very least, Latvia has just saved Canada from an embarrassing 'Nagano' finish to these games in Hockey. They should finish no lower than 4th now, and can still come home with the Gold.

They finished fourth in Nagano. You must be thinking of the disaster in Turin, Italy.

Both were diasters.  I think the italy one was worse.  That team didn't even do well in the round robin.  It wasn't like they just had 2 bad games.

Komarov is playing great as are his linemates on that tenacious 4th line. But he in particular is the engine that is driving them, just destroyed Ovechkin with a big time hit and as a unit they pinned the Russians in their own zone for the final minute of the 1st.

Kulie looks good too but limited icetime on the 3rd line. He's had at least two big hits and looked good on the PK.

I saw that hit. Ovie looked to the ref immediately. That was a good solid hit, don't know what he is complaining about. He has been invisible so far in this tournament.

I'm sure Nonis is taking notice. He'd be great to have back in Toronto.

3-1 Finland now. There are going to be riots if the Russians lose this game. I noticed that Varlamov is back in today - they have swapped goalies in each game up to now, and Bobo is back in.

OH NO HEALY IS BACK ON THE INTERNET FEED! :(

Finland are playing a great game. Not giving the Russians a sniff yet.

Just out of curiosity, why is there a difference in the ice size between international and NHL arenas?
