An NHLPA source tells Yahoo Sports that Backstrom violated anti-doping rules after using an allergy medication. Some, like Claritin, contain pseudoephedrine, a banned substance by the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Federation
That sucks for Sweden and Backstrom. I don't believe for a second he was actually using anything for a competitive advantage.
edit: Elliotte Friedman speculates it might have been migraine medication he took.

According to IIHF rules, 2 players needs to test positive to see a team disqualified.
seahawk said:Here's what I don't get for stuff like this. These teams have a ton of medical staff. They should have versions of these products that wouldn't cause a positive test. To take something that does show up on a test is pretty stupid.
