Men's Olympic hockey

Agreed.  And Kunitz scored a goal in the 3rd period so I guess that justified his role too?  I will say I wanted Luongo as the starter and Price couldn't have played any better than he did.

I mean, the Kunitz thing is hard to measure because so many players finished so poorly. I mean, nobody would question Corey Perry's selection and he did...what? I think he played well with Crosby, bought into the program like everyone else and, yeah, ultimately scored a pretty nice goal so I think that would shut up even his most vociferous critics.

Agreed completely on Luongo though. I really looked sideways at that decision and Price really made a statement here.

Congrats to Olympic gold, great goalie, perfect D, dominating offence, excellent coaching... no other team was even close.

Hopefully it was his last statement of the year.

I'm being a man of my word. Btw that aint whiskey, I was supposed to swap urine samples with Backstrom but kind of messed it up ;)

The two most exciting games to watch this tournament were....

1) Women's gold medal game, CAN vs. USA

2) Mens preliminary game, USA vs. Russia

Canada's games were not exciting too watch, simple because they suffocated their opponents nearly every period of hockey they played.

I'd say those 6 defensemen were the mvps of the tournament.  Price wasn't tested at all. Probably the best assembled defense core we've seen.

The Swedish coach is upset now too. He said that he had no problem with Canada winning, cause they were the better team, but he's upset with IIHF, cause apparently Backstrom's sample was taken Wednesday, and it was said that it was supposed to take 24 hours to get the answer, instead the swedish coach found out 2 hours before the game, and apparently it made the group confused. Sedin said that he had no idea why Backstrom didn't get to play, and that it confused everyone.

Backstrom himself was confused, he's been taking this for 7 years and been tested in the NHL for this too. Apparently IIHF will support him in this, as they don't think he's done it to improve his performance.

Some strange things coming out of this Backstrom press conference. Apparently he's been taking this allergy medicine for 7 years now. Including during the 2010 Olympics. He was tested 3 times prior to the Olympics and those must have passed. He was tested on Wednesday after Sweden's win over Slovakia, and yet was still able to play in their semi-final victory over Finland. And then got told 2 hours prior to this game that something was up before getting official word right before warm-ups.

Do they name a 5-player all-tournament team?

Selanne - Datsyuk - Kessel
Doughty - Karlsson
Price

Would be my list, I think.

The Swedish staff is calling this political, and are blaming the international federation for this. Some sources are saying that this was a political desicion to show that cheaters wouldn't be allowed. Former coach Curt Lundmark (Coach during Olympics in Lillehammer) said that if this was a political desicion it was a big disgrace to sports in general.

Apparently the same thing happend to Vishnovsky a few years back, and he got a warning but was allowed to play the rest of the games in the tournament, so this is one of the things our staff don't understand either.

One thing doesn't make sense though, you are allowed to take this during practice, but not during games.

It looks like a lot of American politicians lost some big bets over the hockey games (and beer)
