TSNBobMcKenzie: As per our friends at RDS, PIT trades Mark Letestu to CBJ for a fourth-round pick. And, no, it doesn't have any impact on 87's status.

Interesting, I thought the Penguins were sort of high on him. It looks like he hasn't reached expectations this year though. But for a 4th round pick it's well worth the gamble for Columbus. Howson better have more up his sleeve though.

Maloney called Turris right after he closed the O'Reilly deal - "That's how easily we replaced you."

Is that for real? Unprofessional if it is.

I don't think so, but I never followed up on it.  I assume it was outrageous enough to be seen as sarcasm.

EDIT: Sarcasm by a person on Twitter, I mean.  Not from Maloney.

Perhaps this deserves it's own thread, I don't know but the Flyers extended Coburn to a 4 year, 18 mil. deal... 4.5 mil. per seems rather high to me.

They have 20 signed for next season, $5.4 mil cap space left and Carle, Jagr & Voracek ($9 mil in salary this year) unsigned.

They better like this roster because they'll be close to the same team next season. Having said that, I suspect they will like this roster. I still think they're a good club.

Krejci gets 3 years, 10.75 mil.

Hedman gets 5 years, 20 mil.
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=381610

Hedman gets only slightly more that Schenn (.4 mil per) and Krejci gets WAY less than I thought he would. I really thought he he'd be closer to 5 mil per. In my opinion, Krejci and Grabo are similar in value and I'd be delighted with a similar deal for him... As a side, remember the old board where folks were calling out 6 mil per year for Grabs? Not even close.

Dreger has the Krejci cap hit at $5.25M per - so, if he's right, the actual value on the contract is $15.75M, not $10.75M.

I've seen reports on twitter that Krejci is making $5.25 mil. He was earning $3.75 previously. I think TSN is in error.

Well that makes much more sense... Hopefully Grabo comes closer to 5 per than 6 (as Krejci just did.) I think he should.

Boston radio 98.5 is also reporting it as a $5.25 MIL per 3 year deal.

That was on the condition that Grabs had another year of 30 goals and 60+ points. If anything, Krejci's deal would seem to indicate that's a legit possibility.

Hopefully, Krejci is too large enough ticket now for Anaheim. Assuming of course they might have previously asked for him.

Grabbo's best season is Krejci's average offensively. Even if Grabbo repeats last season, my guess would be he'd come in a little south of Krejci.

Maybe, but, Grabovski has been a significantly better goal scorer than Krejci has been, which balances that out some. As well the fact that Grabovski is a pending UFA, whereas Krejci was a pending RFA.

Krejci's average over his career is 16 goals per 82 games. If Grabo establishes himself as a guy who can score around 30 a year then on the open market you have to figure he'd do pretty well.

I was hoping he would re-sign at around Connolly contract amount of $4.75 MIL for 4 years.

That is a ton of money for Grabovski.  You really think he's getting that?

He's like Antoine Vermette, but without the penalty killing or faceoff ability.  The guy's broken 50 points once, and he'll need to pick up the pace to make it this year.

I'd be very uncomfortable with dedicating that much cash to a player like that.

I think it's going to be tougher for him to do that this year as I felt in preseason. With Connolly added, I felt he'd get less ice time and be on the 2nd PP unit. So far, he's getting less ice time and less PP ice time. MacArthur has also seen a 2.5 minute drop in ice time per game while both MacArthur & Kulemin have seen a substantial drop in PP ice time.

I also felt his line would see more checking and a better opposition pairing out against them. I haven't followed closely enough to be sure but all of his line is on pace for a significant drop in scoring this year compared with last.

With Bozak going well with Kessel & Lupul and Connolly seemingly able to play pretty well with anyone, I have my doubts Grabbo will get that close to 30 goals this year unless injuries jack up his ice time & PP time. He's currently on pace for 23 (depressed some from his injury).

For a center, it won't just be goals when they look at his salary. He's got to distribute the puck, make his line better/score well and be strong defensively.

Right now, because Kulemin & Grabbo (1 pt, -7 in last 7 games) have been struggling, Wilson's putting them on the third line. And he's still not 100% with that knee injury in my opinion.

I don't see him commanding Krejci money. I think Burke would walk away.

http://nhlnumbers.com/players?position=Center&sort=next_cap_number&year=2012

I'd say he's probably south of $5 mil and north of $3.7 mil depending on how his season goes. And he's likely to be somewhere nearer the middle of those two numbers.
