Minor Offseason Moves

There goes Colin Miller (to Buffalo)

I know it wasn't possible until after a Zaitsev deal, but I was really hoping the Leafs could get in on that.  Miller's numbers are very good, and he'd make a great pair with Muzzin.

Miller might not be the top pairing guy we need but it's still a little disappointing we couldn't snag him at that price.

Why isn't it possible? Leafs can go over the cap by 10% until season starts. Vegas was and still is over the cap slightly after the Miller deal.

I think it's an issue of actually being able to make the Zaitsev deal in an environment where other teams won't take advantage of the situation. If the Leafs made this trade then teams around the league would know that the Leafs had to get rid of Zaitsev and could extract a heavy price for taking on his contract just like we saw with Marleau.

Nik said it better than I could!  Currently the Leafs can say "Zaitsev has requested a trade, but we're only going to move him if it makes sense for us, and we're comfortable starting the season with him" so that they're not exactly giving him away.  However, bring in another d-man and go over the cap and they're pretty much forced to trade him, other teams may take advantage of it.

If Miller was the Leafs? final plan, then this sucks. If we are working on a top RD (Spurgeon, Hamilton, etc.), then of course we wait until we know how Zaitsev clears out (post signing bonus day to the Tyler Myers also-ran sweepstakes).

Spooner being bought out.

A handful of moves: Reimer was traded to Carolina for Scott Darling, then Florida bought out Darling's contract.

Sekera (EDM) and Schlemko (PHI) were also bought out. For a second I thought Sekera was a RHD and thought the Leafs should be all over him, but then I realized he's a stupid lefty.

Scott Darling, thanks to his new buyout, probably wouldn?t mind a league min. deal to try and rehab his reputation.

Ceci for Puljujarvi let?s go

Yes. Also, I say the leafs run 13F, 5D.

Play 4 forwards and 1 D at even strength every other shift against the weak competition.

Plus positionless hockey.

Reilly counts as an F.

It would be fun to watch.

Im not really joking.  It could work. Maybe coaches are too conservative.
