Nashville signs ROR & Schenn

After appearing to be selling the farm for a rebuild at the deadline, do we think Nashville has done a complete 180 by throwing money and term at O'Rielly and Schenn? It's a bit of a headscratcher.

Trotz said he wanted to reset the culture and mindset with "serial winners". I guess these moves are more along the lines of tilling the soil to make it conducive to growing prospects to eventually be winners.

Trotz on Schenn: NYI vs TBL playoffs
"I thought we were starting to take the series over in the bubble. We were the physical team. We were the team that had that identity where we were getting under Tampa's skin. We were pushing some of the key guys maybe out of the series and getting momentum, and Luke was a guy that recognized that and, to me, changed the whole series. He came over and established a presence. He has a great way to identify those moments."

Thus continuing the trend of head coaches looking longingly and lovingly at the defensive glue guys on their opponents' bench and asking their GM (or becoming their own GM) to get'em a few years later (and probably remembered wrong).

Strangely:
Trotz was ready to move Askarov for a top forward prospect pick at the draft (couldn't), which suggests he is going to fully commit to Juuse Saros at his peak while the rest of the roster is screaming: Tennessee Tank-a-thon.

That roster is awful(if I'm missing players let me know):

Forwards with NHL Experience
Centers:
Cody Glass
Colton Sissons
Ryan O'Rielly
Yakov Trenin???

LW
Filip Forsberg
Cole Smith
Gustav Nyquist

RW
Nothing really there

Defense (so old)
Luke Schenn - 33yrs old
Ryan McDonagh - 34yrs old
Tyson Barrie - 31yrs old(he feels so much older)
Roman Josi - 33yrs old
Dante Fabbro
Alexandre Carrier??
Jeremy Lauzon??
Cal Foote (I guess)

Goalie
Juuse Saros (Their only hope)

Thats a pretty awful team.

I was curious and found this possible projected line-up from a Preds follower:

Forsberg-O'Reilly-Evangelista
Parssinen-Glass-Tomasino
Trenin-Novak-Nyquist
Smith-Sissons-McCarron

Josi-Carrier
McDonagh-Barrie
Schenn-Fabbro
(Lauzon)

Saros
Lankinen

Yeah, one things for sure, ROR certainly didn't leave us to go chase another Cup anytime soon.

A little birdie told me it was less about the dressing room and more about everything that goes on with the organization plus the constant media attention.  If his hometown team was the Senators or Wild or he would have been back with the same collection of players but not the additional circus around the team

It's the Leafs and if he can't handle it he shouldn't be here anyway. Honestly I'm really tired of hearing this as if the Leafs are the only team in sports with media attention.

Sure, but when you're in the twilight of your career you might want less pressure...especially on a substantial deal.

If you're Gio and you sign for peanuts, you don't really feel the same pressure.

I get it...if he signed a $4m deal in Toronto, there'd be pressure.  He's declining in performance right?

I didn't say he was wrong to think that way, but if that's the case it's for the best that he isn't on this team.
