The Leafs have had nothing but good luck with Russians though. I don't recall a significant issue involving one here. - I might be forgetting someone. Anyway, Schenn + 5 is something I'd do. Schenn can be replaced. Holzer, Schultz, another UFA?

Schenn and our first for Edms first is to high of a price. it wont cost that much. Schenn is better then anything Edm could pick ,and an NHL pro so a deal for him and a lwr pick is more like it. maybe we dump a high priced forward like Connely in the deal.

Schenn + 5 is maybe  too high of a price is you regard him as anything more than a second pairing defenseman. If you owned the first round pick, nutman would you seriously take any sort of garbage back in a deal for it?

Thinking about it more, I suspect Schenn + 5 might only get us two thirds to three quarters of the way there for the #1.
If that's the case I definitely don't do it. I'd be inclined to try and keep #5 and still trade for #1(probably impossible).

Heard something on sports that Leafs were looking to make a big splash at the draft and grab 2 in the top 5?? Who are they targeting?

If Schenn for JVR seems acceptable to everyone, how is he not worth more than moving 4 spots at the draft?

It's acceptable to most on here cause we would be winning the deal. Some of the trades nowadays surprise us because of the cap issues etc. If money or salary dumping was out of the equation in a deal like this we would have to send more than just Schenn. Luke's game has gone downhill bigtime.

If that. If the Oilers plan on using their first rounder to address organizational need then they are probably better off drafting Yakupov and trading him for defense than they are trading the pick.

Because of where those spots are. I'm sure Schenn could get the Leafs from 35 to 31.

Disagree nutman. It would cost more than just Luke and our first, and as far as sending them Connelly, Tambellini isn't an idiot. If we sweetened the deal significantly maybe but don't see it happening. Unfortunately we're stuck with softie Tim and his stupid contract for another year and thank god it's only one more.

Well yeah but the comment was more about the boards here than anything.

Yup, that or another one of their talented young forwards.

I suppose I don't see the contradiction then. I don't think JVR + #5 would get it done either. Moving from #5 to #1 is more valuable than Schenn who, in the people's eyes who advocate that trade, is less valuable than JVR.

I think I like the idea of a Schenn + 5 for an established young forward just as much... Possibly better. I'd sub Franson or Gunner in there too. I think Burke really needs to bring in a top 6 forward who can step in and make something of a difference immediately.

It's not acceptable to everyone. I happen to believe JvR is one of the more over-rated players in the league right now.

One thing to remember about a possible 5th + Schenn for the 1st is it would free up 3.5m in cap space which also has some value.

I don't think anyone outside of Nutman is underplaying that it'd be a great deal for the Leafs.
