Madferret said:I suppose we'll find out soon enough what Franson's worth is on the trade market....I'd like to point out that there were only 3 1st round picks traded the whole of last season (from the start of 2013/14 season up until the deadline): one in the Marty St. Louis deal / one in the Vanek deal / one in the Miller deal. With respect those 3 players are in a bit of different league skill wise than Cody Franson.

Finally someone one with a bit of perspective. People are touting Franson (other leafs trade chips) like they are blue chip players. They are average players on a terrible team, and other teams recognize that.
When Antropov got traded a few years back he was a soon to be free agent with 21 goals at the deadline. He mustered a second round pick. Franson is slightly better than that...but not much. he'll get a late 1st (25+) or a second and marginal prospect IMO
Madferret said:As Nik just pointed out it's now been at least 1 & 1/2 seasons since a GM has traded a 1st round pick for a defenseman.

2. There?s increased chatter around Bozak, as Damien Cox reported last Saturday. As a general rule, the tightened cap has teams nervous about term, and he?s got three years remaining with a $4.2M hit. He?s had a rough year and a change of scenery benefits everyone. What do potential trade partners see in him? If it?s a No. 2 centre, that cap number is reasonable. If a No. 3, it?s high. But this is a move Toronto is trying to make.
3. Mike Santorelli is going to be interesting. The Toronto forward has a lot going for him: he?s a good player and he can move up and down your lineup at both centre and wing. His cap hit is a delicious $1.5 million. The longer the Maple Leafs hold on, the more teams can be involved. Even the tightest could get him. Right now, we?re probably looking at a second-rounder in exchange. But, could demand drive that any higher?

So Bozak got a limited NTC?!

I'm pretty sure every multi-season UFA contract Nonis has negotiated includes a limited NTC.

Kessel, Lupul, Clarkson, Phaneuf, and Robidas all have some sort of trade protection. In other words every multi-year UFA-eligible player who signed a contract with Nonis.
Nik the Trik said:Ultimately I tend to not think that that a limited NTC ends up being too much of an obstacle. I mean it might knock the value down a little but unless it's a "I can only be traded to 8 teams" sort of thing then having a short list of teams you can't be traded to probably doesn't matter much.

Given the state of the team (and the fan base) it wouldn't surprise me to see guys open that list up to some more potential destinations.
