Hey STA, new Megadeth has leaked early.

Thanks.  I downloaded it but likely won't listen to it until tomorrow at work or in the car on the way to work.

I used to wait until new Megadeth was released to listen but I don't have the willpower anymore.  I hear it's a bit more diverse than Endgame.  Endgame is a master peice so I don't see how they try and top that.

... and sorry, I didn't mean to insult anyone re. my Megadeath comment. It's just a personal taste thing of course. Remember, I like Bill Shatner so...  ;)

No worries.  I just can't stand people that don't realize how great musicians they are because they sold less albums that Metallica.

Fun fact for you.  One of Pink Floyds first 'unofficial working title' band names was 'The Megadeaths'.

Interesting. I don't like to compare Megadeth to Metallica... To very different bands in my opinion. In fact, one could argue that they're not even in the same genre.

Megadeth is still making new albums? Amazing.

Yes they are.  Not sure what the future holds,  Mustaine turned 50, had neck surgery after risking paralysis to play at Yankee Stadium, but is doing fine recovering.

Yeah I just saw them with slayer a little over a year ago but I was thinking at that time that I probably wouldn't get another chance to see them after that.

Except they spelled it 'Meggadeaths'....they were also The Screaming Abdads briefly!

And "The Tea Set", and "The Pink Floyd" as well!

Gonna see Puscifer in November...

I haven't been to many concerts, however, the Puscifer one I went to last year was the best live event I've ever attended...

I so want to go to that, not sure if I'll be able to but it's the one show this year I really want to see.

Just watched 'Blood into Wine', little documentary about Merkin Vineyards...

Saw that show at the Amphitheater also.... I thought the production was very well done.... hadn't seen Slayer since the early 90's so I figured it was a good time as well...

Was just a comment on something impressive, doesn't seem even worth quibbling about.

Absolutely...didn't mean to minimize the achievement, or anything. It's not something that happens every day, that's for certain.

Puscifers new release 'Conditions of my Parole' is pretty darn good. Highlights for me include 'Tumbleweeds', 'Telling Ghosts', 'Man Overboard', 'Horizons', and 'Green Valley'.

LOL...that's more than a third of the album. Although I will admit the whole thing is pretty damned good.

Yeah, the decision wasn't easy, I waffled some... :)

You're right though, it's a really good album. I really like the addition of a female voice, mostly in harmony with the Jimmy.

I've given it a few more listens, and am very impressed with the diversity in the album. It's all over the map, musically, yet retains a certain cohesiveness throughout. And you're right, the softer, higher pitch of the female voice really sets off some of the tracks. The previous album, though it too had female vocals at times, had a much heavier vibe to it...this one almost has a 'folk' groove to it.

I'm really enjoying it. It's blending well with my Decemberists predilection right now. Better than I expected, anyway.

Gun to my head I'd say Horizons is my favorite track right now. I like Jovovich and all, what she did was a fine effort but this album is a whole new ball game, that might be part of the cohesive sound you're describing. It's diverse and yet balanced, hard to do.

Edit, and today I'm really giving Green Valley a once over, what a great line "Weigh your worth before her majesty the Verde river". Dude's just an incredible melody smith and his lyrics seem to always be fairly personal, this one having to do with his vineyard/life in Arizona, Horizons having to do with spreading his moms ashes at the vineyard as well. Good stuff.

Hey SP, you never gave me your thoughts on the album.  ;)

I dunno man.  It's been 17 years since Megadeth released something I was really into.  There's undeniably a few good riffs and solos, but nothing really jumps out at me.

I've listened through it 3 or 4 times now, and there isn't a single song on it that really grabs me.  Deadly Nightshade is probably my favourite track, mainly because off the killer riffs.  But I don't think there will be any songs from this record on my iPod a year from now.

It is cool to hear Dave Ellefson back though.

EDIT: Wikipedia says the riff from Deadly Nightshade was written during the Youthanasia era.  Makes sense it's my favourite, Youthanasia is my favourite Megadeth record.
