Official Ottawa Senators Thread

It doesn't make a huge world of difference but I think the assumption there re: Karlsson's new deal is a pretty big one. With Stamkos getting 8.5 and his buddy Hedman getting 7.875 or whatever it is, I'd imagine there'd be a ton of pressure for the new guy in the room not to blow up the team's existing salary structure.

Even if he comes in at around $8.25M, with Kucherov and Point needing contracts, that's still a tight squeeze. They'd basically have to blow up their existing depth.

That said, how funny would it be if the 10 million a year offer is seen as some sort of insulting attempt to save face by the Sens and he goes and signs for 80% of that in Tampa.

Karlsson and Hoffman in the same state and also facing each other regularly with additional team rivalry context.

The implication being that most teams just handle this stuff on their own?

Honestly, I'm not being sarcastic here. I just would have assumed most AHL teams would let their players figure out their own housing situation. Do the Leafs provide for the Marlies?

It mostly just seemed like a fun way to kick an organization while they're down. "Help! Our players need a place to live!"

But this does seem fairly unusual to me. I also would have always assumed players were responsible for finding their own apartments. The fact that they've put out a public plea like this would tell me there's a large number of players who are having difficulties with this.

I don't know what the Marlies do but when they were in St. John's the team would keep a list of good rentals to make it easier for the players.

I'd be willing to bet that even most NHL teams assist in locating apartments or living arrangements for incoming/new players.

I think it's pretty obvious that Carlton was entirely wrong in his post.  I'll give him an D for effort, as this was a pretty weak dig at a very vulnerable target.

Belleville is kind of a weird situation where it's much smaller than most AHL towns. On the one hand that might mean cheap housing, on the other it might mean hard to find housing.

I genuinely wonder how stuff like that works. You have to imagine there's a big difference in trying to find digs at affordable prices in, say, Utica than it is in Chicago or Toronto.

No more stolen sisters?

It ("no more stolen sisters") refers to the response against violence and discrimination of the country's indigenous women, specifically the inquiry into the MMIWC (Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women & Girls).
