Other draft day targets

I have to say, I'm more bummed out than I thought I'd be by the trade of the #30 pick. I know it makes no tangible difference but I liked the idea of watching the draft, watching them take Matthews, and then still having a reason to watch the rest.

A Leaf trade can still happen.

I'm another thst would take a punt on Yakupov for a third (or ideally middle of the road prospect).

A 3rd round pick might just be wasted on Yakupov!  Make it a 4th, or lower, and, I'm in.

I sort of agree that Yakupov could benefit from a change in scenery but I really don't know if I agree that Toronto would be the place for him to go. He's not someone you want to put into a top 6 role or give prime PP minutes and absent those things is he really going to be a solid bottom 6 contributor?

I think the scenario that fits him is in a lower pressure market on a team where he can get PP minutes and hopefully the things he can do a little will provide a need. New Jersey or Arizona seem like the spot. Maybe Columbus or Carolina.

I hear you, and those are valid points.  It just seems a worthwhile punt to see if we can work on him and his game.  I'd be much happier with a middle of the road prospect going there though given our situation with 50 contracts, but if it's the third alone that gets it done...

Me too. I can only watch the 1st round as I'm leaving on holidays and will PVR the rest. I was pretty curious who the
Leafs snagged at 30 on Friday night.

Last year, I was really excited when we got Marner. And then I waited through most of the draft only to find out we traded the 24th for next day picks. That was probably a bit worse than this year's one and done. We could still be surprised, but hopefully it's an earlier surprise.

Are they even televising the rest tomorrow? They've been inconsistent about that over the last decade or so.

Yeah, Sportsnet is covering day 2 from 10am-1pm on their main channel.

That'll be fantastic television I'm sure.

Jets No. 22 overall pick (acquired in Ladd deal) very much in play with Winnipeg looking for lefty D and top nine forward.
