Phaneuf To Sens

It was a rocky relationship, but I do want to say thanks Dion for 6 years. His play often didn't match his expectations, but there was way too much placed on his shoulders by ownership/management. I wish him the best in Ottawa.

I soooooo wanted the Leafs to draft Cowen in 2009. He and Schenn were going to be the greatest shutdown pairing ever.

I remember all the internet sens fans who focused on a small section of the conversation between Burke and Murray at the draft, and they were convinced Murray tricked the Leafs into taking Kadri because of how good the team thought Cowen would be. They were so wrong for so many reasons.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't hold my breath that his career goes in a different direction.

Nope. He was a cap dump - an intriguing one because of the potential for a cap credit, though. I doubt he's with the Leafs next season, and I honestly won't be shocked if he's traded to a team who expects to be right up against the cap ceiling next season by the deadline.

He's a credit for one year only. The second year he's a hit. He's probably worth trading to a team going over the cap. His credit is kind of irrelevant to us.

Lou says no new captain this season.

Not surprising, really.

Nope. I'm slightly curious to see who gets the As right now. It's usually Hunwick and Bozak, with Lupul getting one when Bozak is out. So 2 are up for grabs. Winnik and Komarov maybe? Or Winnik and Kadri?

One of these is not like the others...

PPP with a write-up on Lindberg: http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/toronto-maple-leafs-prospects/2016/2/9/10951096/who-is-new-leafs-prospect-tobias-lindberg

Lou said that he was very important to the deal and called him the prospect they targeted.

I thought there was talk of Cowen going top 3 but he didn't because of his leg injury... but I could be remembering wrong.

FYI, Milan Michalek is currently on the IR. He broke a finger on January 22nd and was reported as being out indefinitely.

Colin Greening has been in the AHL all season and it seems likely he'll at least start his Leafs tenure with the Marlies.

Tobias Lindberg is definitely reporting to the Marlies.

So Cowen might be the only player we actually see with the Leafs this season.

We never really had an old one....so no change..
It's hard to come up with a reason to watch this team this season. Who really will be part of this team when their competitive. Reilly, Gardner, and Kadri. Not a very compelling reason to watch this year.

Was up shoveling the roof all morning, came down and checked my phone.  Thank God I didn't check it up there, would have fallen off.

Well, I often said this team would never be a contender when it was built around Phaneuf and Kessel.  A-double-plus to the current management for recognizing that and moving on -- and without losing either trade.

i think this season has always been a throwaway.  but at least unlike the last ten or so they were upfront about it.  I think the reason to watch is to see what babcock can do with nothing and watch the start of players like reilly who will hopefully be fantastic when this team gets good.

The core of this team going forward still doesn't exist, not a core that will win.

well of course it doesn't..this is year 1.5 of a rebuild.  this is still the tearing down.  have to demolish the house before you can build a new one.  this all goes back to babcock's "painful" comments when he came here.  hopefully the leafs will start to develop that new core with their first round pick this year.  not to say we might not already have a few pieces in reilly in nylander.

I always thought Phaneuf was going to be the chimney. Apparently he's a snowmobile.
