Randy Carlyle will meet with the media at 12:30 today.

So he isn't getting fired? Or will he resign? Seems strange he will meet with the media.

It's typical end of the season stuff. Don't read anything into it.

You find it typical that Randy was completely absent yesterday and did not (from what we know) meet with the players to provide exit interviews. But today he is making himself available just a matter of due course?

I have a feeling that something more is afoot.

The coach was not speaking Monday as he conducted player exit interviews, which wouldn?t be unusual were his job not such a hot topic. A team official indicated Carlyle will meet the media at some point this week, though Shanahan said a review of the coaching staff was likely first on his agenda Monday afternoon.

Sounds like they're either dragging this poor guy along, or he's getting another shot next season.

I found it odd too that Randy didn't talk yesterday after the player meetings, but it's entirely possible the team just didn't want to add another media event/frenzy with the Shanahan PC going on yesterday.

I think that's the most likely explanation. They didn't want to have the press guys stick around all day or have to leave and come back on the same day when there wasn't really any significant announcement being made RE: Carlyle.

I think it could be as simple as, the PC wasn't about his role.  Sure, the hiring will impact whether he is coach or not, but it was about the management structure of the team, whereas Carlyle is more linked with the players, IMO.  So where hiring Shanahan would seem to directly conflict with Nonis, you need them there to clarify the new roles.  Carlyle, or any head coach, wouldn't be in a position where their toes were being stepped on by this move.

So really he would have been there to field 20 questions about being fired or not.

I meant why he didn't hold his own little scrum/press conference like a lot of coaches do on locker cleaning day. I agree that there would have been absolutely no reason for him to be at Shanny's thing.

Ahhh, right.

I was wrong. I really expected him to say that he and the team decided it was time for him to move on.

Honestly - can you find an example of when this has ever happened?

It's not incumbent on him to find an example.  Still, its not the professional way to do it at all.

That's tough coming out to face the media under these circumstances. I applaud Randy for being honest, and not deflecting too much of the blame away from himself. He stayed pretty classy here.

These are some brutally softball questions.  Nothing about his coaching style, all in a 'how did the players fail you?' sort of way.

They criticize coaching decisions when they are writing their columns, blogs or in tweets. Get them in front of the coach, and they never ask them to explain said decisions.

I think his comments about Gardiner were a bit off-side.  He pretended not to reveal who it is but referred to  him as an "offensive minded, rover type" of defenseman or something like that.  It was obvious he was talking about Gardiner when he said he was shocked by who he compared himself to in the league, as if to suggest that Gardiner is delusional about his own ability.

Maybe he shouldn't have said it, but he's not wrong.

It's a crappy comment by a coach about his own player.  Maybe Carlyle knows he's getting fired anyway so didn't care.
