Maybe I'm not explaining myself well enough (I'm certainly not "charged up" about it), but I appreciate your viewpoint on it and can see why you believe that.

Sorry, my bad, I shouldn't have said 'charged up'.  Was thinking of somehting else while writing.

Cheers, Potvin.

So, with the Rangers win tonight, a regulation loss to the Canes tomorrow would officially put the Leafs on the outside looking in, as the Canes would no longer be able to jump the Caps into 3rd in the Metro, as Rangers pushed them out of the playoff picture already. The unfortunate trend we've been seeing for weeks may now become a reality.

I'm past the point of being frustrated with Carlyle and this team. I know they won't make the playoffs. I'm just hoping they suck bad enough to get a top 3 pick and have Carlyle fired in the off season. That's my ideal outcome for this year.

Good lord, ideal? Ok then.

Yeah. I just don't want this season to be for nothing.

Yeah. I just don't want this season to be for nothing.

Obviously.

Don't know about you guys.... but I think my ideal outcome for the year would be a parade down yonge street.

And I'm not even in the city, let alone the country.

Well put. I am far from tank nation at this point.

Hey, if they could win the Cup without making the playoffs I'd be all for that.

Other than TML Fan, I don't think there's anyone around here who is really in "Tank Nation" yet. It's more that a number of us are coming to terms with the reality that that's where the team is heading. You'll notice none of us seem particularly happy about it.

Tank nation is only good if you're bad enough to get a top 3 pick.  After that it's pretty much a crapshoot each year in the draft.  This Leafs team isn't that bad.

Buffalo and Edmonton have already had such a headstart, it's almost pointless trying to compete with them in that regard. Still, I guess you might be able to say I'm sort-of in a tank nation mode. It's just my prize at the end of it isn't a draft pick.

the Leafs have plenty of young talent, what seems to be missing is chemistry, the certain individual(s) that galvanize a team and instill the spirit of winning.  I acutally think Bolland was that kind of guy and it almost seems the current malaise started when he went down.  We may need another guy like him, a proven winner of the cup to come to the team and help it gel?..Or we just throw RC under the subway car

In terms of talent on the roster, they're not that bad. In terms of how they actually play on the ice, I'm not so sure. Their shot differential is right up there with some of the worse teams in the history of the league. Replace Bernier and Reimer with average goaltenders, and the Leafs would be right there at the bottom of the league with Buffalo and Edmonton.

Also, I'd prefer for the team not to end up with another middle of the round pick. That's not likely to bring them the kind of talent they need. If they're not going to make the playoffs and have potential to make some noise there, then I'd like to see them get as high a pick as possible and a better shot of winning the lottery. I'm not at that point yet, but, with the way things are going, I suspect I will be before the trade deadline.

This is basically how their play was trending last season too.  The goaltending was still allowing them to win games in April, but they were getting killed on the shot clock.  44 games played this season, 48 last season.  If last season had been a full season it's very likely we'd be seeing what we're seeing happen now continue.

I naively thought that "guy" was going to be Clarkson, but that hasn't transpired yet. I still think he will be closer to that guy, than what he currently is, it just hasn't come out of him yet.

Bolland is the biggest loss for this team right now though and has been for a while.

The analogy of an 18 wheeler driving off a cliff wouldn't do that scenario justice. For this team to drop off that badly would be more comparable to the Empire State Building toppling off the Grand Canyon.

This is why I'm so confused that some are shocked by this team's play. This team was this bad last year too.

Perhaps Clarkson with Bolland would bring Clarkson to where he needs to be. I still believe in Clarkson and think he will be an asset, I always loved his play with the Devils

I sort of agree. I don't think we've seen the best of David Clarkson in a Leaf uniform yet.
