DeBoer ending up in Toronto and Carlyle in Winnipeg seems like a distinct possibility. I heard the guys on the Fan suggesting the Jets are likely holding out to see what happens with Carlyle, and that Maurice's reservations of signing up there affords them that time.

Well, if that happens, Reimer to Winnipeg is probably out.

Hadn't thought about that angle. Winnipeg just seems like a logical destination for Reimer.

Maurice wouldn't be a terrible choice. At least he'd have some better players to work with this time around?

It might be the first time in his career he'd coach a team that had quality goaltending.

So who would you prefer... Maurice or DeBoer?

Honestly, don't really have a preference right now. I'm not really going to start narrowing things down in my mind until I have an idea of who is really available.

So now we're hiring a coach because of Clarkson's ridiculous contract?

He also coached Kadri in junior and has always said really good things about him. These wouldn't be the only reasons, but familiarity with some of the possible long-term players on the team can't be seen as a negative when looking for a new coach.

edit: He and Steve Spott also have a connection, as Spott was DeBoer's assistant in the OHL. Maybe Spott joins DeBoer as an assistant again in the big leagues.

I'd pay money to see Randy in Winnipeg with Pavelec as his goalie.

Cam Ward?

Completely forgot that Maurice went back to the Canes after the Leafs. Nevertheless, Ward was only okay most of his time there, and the rest of the roster was pretty bad. It was basically Eric Staal and a bunch of retreads/depth players.

As mentioned by BMac, Steve Spott was DeBoer's asst coach at one time.  Apparently, the two have known each other a long time.

DeBoer could also make Clarkson going from their years in NJ and there is one more interesting connection, he coached Kadri in Kitchener

I wonder if there'd be value in trying to get them both.  They played junior together and coached together for a season in the O.  A long time ago, but maybe they're buddies and would like to work together.  Or if that even makes sense.  Might not work with two guys used to being the head coach.

The chain of command is already convoluted enough. :P

He also coached Clarkson in Kitchener. If he does get sacked in Jersey, it would be an interesting hire. Even if that doesn't happen, I still think Randy is gone from the Leafs bench. It's clear he's mismanaged the team, especially the goaltenders.

Before the game tonight Elliotte Friedman said that DeBoer and the Devils are working on an extension. Still not done yet of course but that might slow down the speculation.

3-13 in their final 16 games. With a new sheriff in town, anyone still think Carlyle will be back behind the Leafs' bench next season?

Seriously, I can't think of a single reason to continue with RC. I don't care how much the media ridicules Leaf fans for being hard on him.

DeBoer, 45, is believed to be in the final season of a three-year contract with the Devils. The thought out of Toronto is that the puck-possession game DeBoer prefers and his ability to bring out the most in David Clarkson (both in Kitchener in the OHL and with the Devils) and Nazem Kadri (Kitchener) would make him the right man to take over the Maple Leafs. Of course, DeBoer also has Ontario roots, so the job could be intriguing to him, as well.

Some believe that if DeBoer does end up a Leafs coach, Jaromir Jagr will follow him here, because Jagr has always expressed a desire to play in Canada.

Find it difficult to believe that Jagr would want to be a Leaf, but then, stranger things have happened.

The new sheriff may decide that Randy hasn't had a barn full of horses to work with, hard to say, anyone have a clue as to what Shanahan might think of Randy? ( outside of the very current situation )

Y'all want to see Randy gone and that's fine, I don't think it'll make a lick of difference so if you get your pound of flesh, good on ya, barring a real change of the player guard be prepared for another bubble appearance from the Leafs next year.
