Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

How about tandem coaching staff? They've tried it in net, now let's try it behind the bench!

Here's my idea: The Leafs hire Pat Quinn, Paul Maurice, and Ron Wilson. They draw straws to find out who coaches what month. Maybe Quinn get October, Wilson gets November, etc. After the first 4 months the two coaches with the best record advance, while the other two are relegated to assistant coach status. The 2 final coaches split the rest of the season. The coach who has the best record after the remainder of the season get to coach in the playoffs.

Why not have a different person coach each game, but no one would know who the coach would be until the players step onto the ice?  Perhaps have a guest coach WWE style each game.  It would confuse the hell out of the players, fans, other teams and just might lead the Leafs to the cup.

Some believe that if DeBoer does end up a Leafs coach, Jaromir Jagr will follow him here, because Jagr has always expressed a desire to play in Canada.

Funny you should mention that as I was wondering the same thing with Jagr's success playing for Deboer this year.

So, we're decided then? DeBoer with Maurice and Spott as assistants?

Randy stays on as Marlies coach?

If he can't operate a major league toaster, he"ll starve in the AHL.

Kidding aside, he can't teach the NHL players anything so I wouldn't want him near our prospects.

Jeffler: The Toronto Maple Leafs' 2945 shots against is the most ever given up in an 82 game season.

We're #1! We're #1! We're #1! We're #1!

Quenneville with Hitchcock and Babcock is my coaching team.  Shouldn't be too hard to acquire them.

Yeah. I'll just take the team Canada olympic coaching staff.

DarrenDreger: As others have noted, I believe we can scratch Peter DeBoer's name off list of free agent coaches. Extension with NJD expected soon.

Not a surprise, but, I wonder how much of the speculation about him coming to Toronto helped expedite the process.

Too bad, but there are still some other names out there that I would be interested in:

Kevin Dineen, Davis Payne, Guy Boucher, Peter Laviolette, Tom Renney.

Not really the fault of the Leafs' defensive-minded, Stanley Cup-winning coach.

Nope. Absolutely nothing to do with a defensive system that was passive and reactive instead of aggressive and proactive, and left the points wide open all too frequently. Definitely nothing to do with the fact that all 5 Leafs were often inside the hashmarks because that's what the coach's system dictates, either.

Nope. That Carlyle guy was the issue with this.....wait a second....you guys almost had me convinced it was all Randy's fault for a second there....almost. ;)

The new sheriff may decide that Randy hasn't had a barn full of horses to work with, hard to say, anyone have a clue as to what Shanahan might think of Randy? ( outside of the very current situation )

Y'all want to see Randy gone and that's fine, I don't think it'll make a lick of difference so if you get your pound of flesh, good on ya, barring a real change of the player guard be prepared for another bubble appearance from the Leafs next year.

However you slice it, the Leafs need a culture change. Considering the coach is the biggest influence on the dressing room, and that changing the coach is easy and has immediate impact on that culture....I would say its a done deal.

Even if it's not his fault, the team needs a fresh start.

I'm surprised that the "Where are we going find to get a better coach" comment from the anonymous, cowardly Leafs exec didn't get more traction...

Who knows what they're thinking at this point. Sure they're aren't many experienced name guys but that doesn't mean there aren't good coaches out there.
