Very good news.

I think McMann could help the NHL team.

Yeah I liked his game when he was called up.  Only thing is putting actual production on the stat sheet.  He wasn't able to finish (aside from the called back goal).  Had a lot of good chances and I liked his speed energy.  He would be interesting playing with some of our better bottom six guys now

I would actually like to see him play up the lineup for a few games. He could possibly be that missing LW.  He plays a well rounded game and he has finish.

When he played those 8 games in January, He mostly played with Kampf or Holmberg on the 3/4 lines. Very little PP time.

Nearly half his Marlies goals this season are on the PP.
When he scores - including even strength, he typically tips them in or he bangs them in around the goal or he has a decent shot in the slot. He's obviously developed some finish. He doesn't have a Jeremy Williams shot but it is pretty good.

Since being returned from the NHL, he has 13 goals in 11 AHL games. On the season 21 goals, 29 pts +4 in 29 games.

Given their lack of NHL depth at forward, if they need a middle-six winger who can score and help the second power play, McMann would be a good candidate.

If O'Reilly centers a 3rd line, it could be a checking line with Jarnkrok/Kerfoot and someone from the 4th line or a scoring line with Jarnkrok and Knies/McMann. If they're behind, go with the scoring line. If they're ahead, use the checking line.

Something seemed off about this clip to me but I just chalked it up to everyone in the NCAA being tiny.

It's actually of course that Minnesota plays on an Olympic sized rink. Surprised that doesn't get mentioned more often, especially in regards to Knies. Considering his strengths (and weaknesses) I'd imagine that doesn't exactly benefit him a lot.

Good catch.

Knies probably had to stay more on top of developing his skating to compete on that bigger rink. That won't hurt him.

I still feel that he was a significant factor in their decision process at the trade deadline. "If we have Knies, where is this NHL left winger we trade for going to play and how do we fit it all under the cap? Does it make us that much better?"
Rightly or wrongly, coming out of the NCAA, I think they're counting on Knies as being the best bet for bolstering their lineup under the cap.

The award is voted on by conference coaches and media.

I also saw some replies in incredulous tweets about how they went by conference-only stats, in which case Knies shows up highest in raw goals scored and game winners. Anyway, it's clearly a subjective vote and they categorically leaned away from freshmen. The clutch factor probably put Knies top of mind.

I think it's awesome he won it. Good for him. He's had a great year.

It's one of those things where Logan Cooley may have been a better player on his own team but the award leans a bit more toward sophomore players.  Ultimately it's still a great recognition for him and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the NHL at the end of the year.  If he's an impact in the playoffs this year is asking a lot of him but if Knies' game is able to translate to the NHL we have a great asset to put into our top 6.  He's not the skater that Pierre Engvall was, but he's capable of doing the things that we wanted a big body like Pierre to do.  Drive the net, be a menace in front of the net and score goals.  Whether he ends up playing with Tavares or O'Reilly that really opens up options if he can find a way to pot a goal or two.

Knies winning this award impressed me but didn't get me all that excited. So I looked up the the few years finalists and Wow there is some very good impactful NHL players in the mix.

With the Leafs not having much NHL forward depth, Tverberg can probably help the Marlies
