RFA Contract Talks Thread

As I have been saying for a while now we are set in goal. Its just a matter of for how long, I am hoping they sign Riemer instead of letting him go to arbitration.

i tired of all this Reimer and Franson crap. It is a soap opera, either sign them or trade them. Get on with it.
franson apparently has a history with the new asst  coach horachek , so a potential for him and the Leafs to kiss and make up, and he used to be a good defenceman so we shall see.
i' be happy if reimer stayed the year in toronto to prove himself which if he stays healthy he might

Well lets hope that Franson can learn to skate better then. I just think he is over rated. That is just me, I dont like him as a leaf.

Franson was jettisoned from Nashville when Horacheck was there, so maybe he knows what Cody really is. If Cody stays there is no room for one of the Marlies and believe me the need to have some of these boys moving up or the belief will be there are no spots on the big club available.
I think Cody is history or least hope he is.

Yeah. I thinks it's a foregone conclusion Franson's days as a Leaf are numbered. He was the rumoured piece going to the Habs for Gorges. It's too bad Gorges nixed that, because I don't think Cody would fetch much more than that in return.

Reimer to Pitt may make some sense in the long run.  Fleury on the last year of his deal and with his inconsistency in the playoffs last few years, perhaps Pitt will move on?

I don't see why Pittsburgh would want Reimer over Fleury.

Say what you want about Fleury, but he has gotten them to 2 finals, and nothing in Reimer's numbers suggest he'd be a substantial improvement over Fleury.

The first time maybe, but I wouldn't really say he got them to both Finals.  He was certainly there.

New GM, new coach and Fleury making a substantial amount.  When his contract runs out after this season does Pitt want to commit to him long term?  Surely he'll be looking for a 5-6 year deal at a high number.

Reimer could step in as the backup this season and be an option after this upcoming season should Fleury's demands be too high or if the Pens want to move in another direction.

It's just a thought after looking at the Goaltending depth chart listed earlier in the thread.

Didn't he make the save of the decade or something like that in the finals?

It has also been 5 years since that happened, and, in sports terms, that's a lifetime.

You know what - I'm just looking at his career playoff stats, and they are pretty sad...

Well that would be when they were already there!

But in all seriousness, his stats since that first Cup run are pretty mediocre in the regular season and pretty bad in the playoffs.  Even when they won the Cup his numbers were below average.
