The Habs Thread - Reloaded

Montreal has enough assets to do a quick rebuild / retool. What do you think of Gionta as Captain?

He's a good player to have but I'm not thrilled about him being captain.  I'd rather have kept Koivu and I still don't understand that switch.

Yeah I never really understood that decision either - Cammalleri would have been my choice if it wasn't Koivu.
If the Habs decide to retool / purge some assets into draft picks or prospects do you think Gionta would be in play?

Which are the top five roster players you keep and rebuild around Manson?

Honestly, I don't care if we keep anyone.  But for arguement's sake I think they need to identify their best players, a couple of veteran leaders and which young guys they want to hold on to.  That would be the core.

For me it would be Price, Subban, and Pacioretty as the best players,  Markov and Gill as the veteran leaders and young guys would be Eller, Leblanc and Emelin.

After that, I think they should get draft picks and youth for Cammalleri, Plekanec, Kostitsyn, Gionta, Gorges, or anyone else.  Hopefully that could get them a few decent picks to start it off.  Then they'd obviously get some top 5 picks for the next couple years.

Can we have Cammalleri?  What do you think the asking price would be?

Gill would / should bring back a decent return come the trade deadline if the Habs are still struggling.

Don't get me wrong, I do love Cammalleri, but we'd have to part with some quality in order to rebuild.  I don't see him as part of the future in 5 years when he's in his 30's so we might cash in his value now.

Unfortunately though, he's a little over paid at a $6M cap hit, so I'm guessing you might get a late 1st for him at the deadline.  I'm no expert though.

Said this AM on air Randy Cunneyworth won't make January 7th home game, for better or worse....they're making permanent hire before then.

That is insane.  Has a team ever fired two coaches in a single season?

I don't think Cunneyworth is going to be fired - they'll just reassign or return him to his previous duties.

True.  If there's a demand for him, you have the option of keeping Gorges in his place who is said to be a very good leader.  I think you'd get more for Gorges though.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but on the chance it hasn't - Cunneyworth is the SIXTH coach Kaberle has played for in 2011 - Wilson, Julien, Maurice, Muller, Martin, Cunneyworth.

Potentially 7 if they hire someone else.

Have you seen him play lately? The Habs are more than welcome to him, his $6M cap hit for the next two seasons, the 65ish games he'll play and the 20ish goals he'll score.

Couldn't they have just beaten Winnipeg in a close game.  Blowing them out does no good for the Leafs tonight as I sure the Jets will be more ready for the game now.  Thanks for nothing Habs.

Almost any result a team has the game before playing Toronto, someone on this site thinks up a reason why it will result in the other team 'being more ready' or definitely 'wanting this game' etc, etc.

My buddy from Montreal posted a video of the "protest" last night in front of the Bell Centre.  He's the cameraman and his buddy has the mic.

They went to show how stupid it was.

That was good.  I anxiously await for the first non-french speaking player to openly say they do not want to play in Montreal.

*Bump* Video of the protest for those who didn't see it
