The Official 2011/2012 Armchair GM thread

St Louis has the #1 goals against in hockey and the #20 goals for.  So if I were them, I wouldn't be looking to trade a goal-scoring forward for a defensive defenseman.

Fairly typical of Hitchcock teams. And that stat doesn't directly mean they have a great defense. Piterangelo, Shattenkirk and Jackman are good, but it drops off heavily after that (apologies to Colaiacovo fans).  Schenn would slot in nicely as a #4 giving them two very balanced pairs who log about 45 mins/night.

Oh Lord look at what crazy Bill Watters just threw out on twitter:

Now that Columbus has landed the All-Star game, I'm convinced Nash doesn't get moved now. I mean, they just can't, right?

He didn't make it this year what's to say he makes it next year?

Host team would get a token attendee no matter what.  Even if its Luke Schenn for Columbus. ;)

I don't really see whats so absurd about that trade proposal, beyond the fact that its a made up rumor and is being reported out of "nowhere".

It's at least worth considering if im Columbus.

It would not shock me to see them trade Nash or Carter or both after this disaster of a season and total lack of success for the franchise in... well, ever.

It's getting crazy though and I just want it to be over, all the names linked to the Leafs lately; Getzlaf, Perry, Staal, Carter, Ruutu, JVR.... Im sure Burke is busting his ass right now trying to get something done but jesus.

I have no fear the Leafs will be robbed, Burke is a shrewd negotiator.

Well, for one, I'm sure there would be some ballot stuffing in Nash's favour regardless and he is their franchise player. In my mind, the optics of trading Nash right now would be awful.

Everything about Columbus is awful right now. Anyone is available for the right price and that team is a disaster. You've got to take whatever assets you have and move them to improve the team. Carter Nash are about all they have right now. Spend money to make money.

Yeah.

Nash will get voted in.  Heck he could very well be a captain now.

Yeah, I think the All-Star game shouldn't be about guys having good years... I want to see guys like Nash, Kopitar, etc... Even if they are having off-years. - Even if (sorry) it means Lupul is out.

I say whoever gets the Columbus franchise, now gets a free all-star game to kick start their organization... wherever they take the team.

2012 All Star game in Quebec City! lol

... I'l add... I'm not saying it'll be the Leafs but with Carter being owed only 7 mil over the last 3 years of his 10 year deal, I'm not all that stressed about his contract... 5.3 mil is a very good cap number for him I think. He's moveable.

That's just it.  That team is really, really REALLY bad.  To say Nash will be staying is a huge assumption right now, and without some drastic changes that franchise is just one big pile of denial.  I don't think they keep him for fear of not having a rep for the All Star game next year..they have bigger problems than that.  They need to determine how to salvage the franchise as a whole which has been a mess since its inception, save for one year.

At this stage how do you sell any other plan other than gutting the thing from stem to stern and rebuilding from scratch, starting with a big pile of assets you get for Nash and Carter, the 1st overall (likely) pick and going from there?  Teams that take that approach are usually always better for it and keeping Nash while trying to build around him hasn't exactly worked wonders so far.

Hey, look at that, a trade that neither team makes!

As much as I'd like to add Nash, I would not make the deal (if it were the least bit true, which I doubt it is).

I'm not keen on giving up Grabbo, Kadri is beginning to look like an NHL'er, and Schenn is a young, steady defenseman with room to grow. Useless and Komisarek are a wash.

Jeff Carter makes more sense for the Leafs than Rick Nash, and I would guess that he is probably more likely to be traded as well.

Leafs want a centre with size and scoring punch.  Assuming Getzlaf is not being traded (I don't know this), Carter would be #2 on my list.

I'd probably give Kadri, Blacker and a 2nd or something like that for Carter. No more than that. Or perhaps something like Schenn, McKegg, and a 2nd.
