I've seen the first season of Spartacus. I enjoyed it (after shutting off my brain) but I couldn't get into the second season at all. There's only so much spectacle of spurting blood I could watch without having an engaging story.

Season 2 was the "prequel" season, right? Yeah, it was less interesting. It picked up once they got back to the actual story in season 3, but, it's definitely a "shut off your brain and enjoy the spectacle" show.

Considering you mentioned Netflix, I'd recommend giving House of Cards a look. I watched the 1st 5 or 6 episodes on my flights this summer and quite enjoyed it.

Because of the Senator, I now use the rowing machine when at the gym. He is cray cray!

Watching the Australian 'Wilfred', oddly darker than the US counterpart, which is kinda dark, can't seem to stop watching...

Man, say what you will about it during most of the season, Sons of Anarchy certainly knows how to get it done in the last 15 minutes of their finales.

That was a hell of a 15 minutes.  Quite the twists and turns.

Haven't quite caught up with SOA yet.....I must say though, I lost interest in season 5 and if not for my wife's love of the show I wouldn't of even started watching season 6.....Glad I did! Awesome.

So, I finished Mad Men and The Walking Dead on Netflix. What should I watch next until the new seasons are added?

I've been told the following:
- Breaking Bad
- Sons of Anarchy
- Spartacus
- Southland
- Downtown Abbey
- American Horror Storey

I'd prefer something on Netflix. Though I know it's highly rated, I'm not really all that interested in Breaking Bad. However, I wasn't really interested in the The Walking Dead either and ended up loving it.

I'm just starting Breaking Bad. I was much like you and I'm still not sold on it.

SOA is great if you can get past some of the cheesiness of the show.

Spartacus is very much like Busta and co. have said. All blood, and sex but fun if you can struggle through the 2nd season. The first and the 3rd season is great fun. The biggest thing to overcome with that show is the main actor dying after the first season and getting use to the 'new' Spartacus. Once you get past that it's good fun.

I haven't really seen any of the other 3 you have listed though I tried Downtown Abbey and lost interest quicker than it took me to turn on the TV.

I'd recommend the following..

Take in the episodes of Derek. That show is a half hour show and it makes me cry and laugh all within that 30 minutes. It's a Netflix show.

Homeland.
I love this show despite the declining ratings. Extremely intense!

The Newsroom.

Probably my favourite on TV. Jeff Daniels is awesome and Olivia Munn is downright gorgeous!

Suits.

Can be cheesy at times but very fun. Plus Meghan Markle may be the most gorgeous woman in Hollywood

And last but certainly not least!

Shameless(US version)William H Macy is the most disgusting yet lovable father I've ever seen. This show is trailer park trash at it's best!

The Newsroom and Shameless are just fantastic. Two of my absolute favs. S3 of American Horror Story hasn't disappointed me either.  - Another show I can't praise enough.

Can't go wrong with Sons of Anarchy. I would also recommend Hell on Wheels which is on Netflix and doesn't get nearly enough talk.

So we decided to watch Sherlock on Netflix. Great decision. We really enjoyed it. Two seasons, each with three episodes of 90 minutes. Can't wait for the 3rd season to start on PBS on Jan. 19!

Just started Orange is the New Black a couple of days ago and we're enjoying it. Funnier than I expected.

Sherlock's incredible. The first episode of season 3 aired on the BBC already. I don't think it was quite on par with the rest of the series. It seemed a lot more light-hearted than the rest but that's understandable considered how the 2nd season ended.

Yeah, I caught it last night, it was a little different but still quite good. 'use your mind palace!!!!'

They set the hook for me at the end... also watching the new episode of 'Elementary' right after was an interesting exercise.

Haha I was going to do the exact same thing but instead I chased it with the new Community. What do you think of Elementary? It's actually much better than I originally expected. The whole crime of the week thing isn't exactly my cup of tea, but everything they've done with the actual Sherlock stories has been great. Especially the last few episodes of season 1 and their whole take on Moriarty.

I really like Jonny Lee Miller and the tone is so distinct from the BBC concept. Granted carrying certain arcs over a whole season makes it a difficult show if you don't watch all of them but on the whole I think it stands up very well. There's another interesting twist with Moriarty in the latest episode...

...and the second season 3 Sherlock was, well, strange I thought. I'm going to give it another go today, I couldn't seem to get it into it last night after quite a long day.

Yeah. While they've clearly taken a number of liberties with the source material, I really like the direction Elementary has taken. It's a very entertaining show, and thankfully, so far, they've resisted the urge to create a romantic relationship between Sherlock and Watson.

For sure, it would be somewhat anathema to the concept of why they met in the first place. If the writers ever do fall prey to that line of thinking, well, I'd rather they give Fonzie that boat ride...

I began to watch the 1st episode of Elementary but didn't make it through it. I have the 1st season on my Apple TV ready to roll and considering most of the other shows I frequent are on hiatus, it may be time to give it another shot.

I watched the 1st two episodes of 'Defiance' over the weekend. I chuckled at the cheesy aspects of it, but I'm somehow drawn to want to watch on.

Here's the Defiance trailer for those that haven't heard of it:
