I'm excited about that 'What If?' series they're doing. I think that'll be a lot of fun.

Definitely. I know one episode is going to based around Marvel Zombies, which is just fun.

I can see why it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but WandaVision is kind of growing on me as a way Disney+ can use the MCU to maybe not do the big blockbustery things the Mandalorian is but as a venue for telling smaller stories about the characters that aren't likely to get their own movies.

And obviously (mild spoiler) the big thing at the end of episode 5 is interesting on a larger scale.

The TV stuff seems like a great place to feed/intro some of the weirder comic book stuff that is coming in their next phase too.

Nice to see them pull the trigger on a big card in their deck

Yeah. They?re opening themselves up to some very interesting potential storylines. Between this and the post-credit reveal from the last Spider-man movie, there?s some big stories being set up.

As a big time Whedon-show fan (pretty much all of them: Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly, Agents of Shield), this sucks pretty hard, but sucks so much harder for all the people he abused that couldn't come forward then due to his fame (as well as his now ex-wife).

Whedon always struck me as the kind of guy who takes a women's studies class so he could get hip to the lingo and hit on the girls there.

He also use his shows for that purpose

I'm still of the opinion that you can still enjoy past works from someone who is otherwise a vile individual but I'm perfectly ok if Joss Whedon goes away and doesn't make anything moving forward.

Yeah. This is very disappointing. Not surprising, but still disappointing.

Yeah. I acknowledge that this is a privileged position, as I haven't suffered the traumas or other triggering elements that has "cancelled" many artists and performers, but I still feel it's a valid one as long as that's acknowledged. You and I (and many others) can separate the art from the person, but others can't, and that's okay.

Buffy herself (and Dawn) weighed in too (and Tara and Glory earlier).

You know doing some self reflection here.  I was just thinking about how much I used to love the film Leon the Professional.  I really like Jean Reno, I thought Natalie Portman did a phenomenal job as a child actor.  Then I did some reading on Luc Besson.  You read about his interaction with a 12 year old that he later starts dating at 15, gets married to at 16.  He later has multiple sexual assault allegations thrown against him.  The original script went full on into the pedophilia side of things and only didn't happen due to objections from Reno and Portman's parents.  I do have a harder time watching that movie now in that context.  I still like it but it definitely feels uncomfortable at times.

It's hard not to blame that feeling on those other experiences because I don't have the same problem with The 5th Element.  Although interestingly he had an affair with the star of that movie and left his former child bride while filming that movie.

I think too often people look at separating art from the artist as a sort of binary where it's either something you're capable of, or should be, doing or it isn't when the reality has to be more nuanced. Everyone is going to have their own red lines, everyone is going to have their own soft spots...I think the important thing is about making sure that people who are found to be lousy are kept from doing further harm and that we move on from the "Well, he's a jerk but supertalented" mindset that allows these sorts of environments to exist.

It's hard to separate from the art of movies/TV for me, because of the enormous amount of work that went into their production from so many other contributors.

It's easy to avoid listening to Charles Manson's music.

I think a good example would be Michael Jackson. I've always had a hard time listening to him because of the allegations. That became worse when the couple docs came out after he passed.

Apparently Favreau went to bat for her earlier in the year when she started her anti-mask tirades.  Comparing mask wearing to Nazi Germany and the Jews is never a good idea.
