Interesting that Jacob Markstrom is on waivers in Vancouver.

Yeah. Of all the players on waivers today, he's probably the most likely to be claimed. My guess is he clears, though. The timing is in Vancouver's favour here, as most teams have 3 or 4 goalies in camp right now, and very few are unsettled at the position. His NHL numbers are also pretty uninspiring.

Was thinking maybe Winnipeg but yeah not sure who else would put in a claim right now.

Not sure how comfortable New Jersey is with Clemmenson/Wedgewood/Kinkaid as their back-up. Plus it'd be funny to see them get another former Canuck (kinda) in net.

Yeah. I think if anyone does it, it'll be New Jersey.

Dear Colton,
I know its been a long time and that we agreed when you came to Toronto that you had a new start and a good chance to resurrect your career, but once you got here you lost the fight or a lot of fights and I believe that we have no choice but to break up. Colton I won't miss you very much and will probably develop a new bromance with Troy or Broll or anyone else who can score the odd goal and beat the shit out of anyone whom comes into our territory.
Goodby Molten,
We both knew it couldn't last.

Its not like Orr was signed and expected to kill penalties, be a 2 way dynamo, or do anything much related to hockey apart from fight and hit - back when that was a 4th line priority.

If you want to make fun of the guy, go ahead, but he's not the GM, or the 2nd GM, or the coach, or the 2nd coach that kept him around and in the lineup. Perhaps those are the people that deserve your apparent disdain.

To be fair, the 1st GM and 1st coach both recognized that what he did was no longer useful in the NHL, and removed him from the lineup and the NHL roster before they were let go. Orr only played 5 games with the Leafs in Wilson's final season. He was effectively off the team before Carlyle and Nonis took over, so, the blame is really on them. When Burke signed him and when Wilson played him, the league was only really starting to move away from most teams using goons, and Orr had looked more useful than that in his final seasons with the Rangers.

I don't know if it's entirely accurate to say that Burke thought that what he did was no longer useful if we're talking about fighting as opposed to Orr's ability to do the job. He is running the team that kept Brian McGratton in the line-up for 76 games and 6 minutes a game last year.

Well, he did have his whole "the rats have taken over the game and there isn't a place for good old boys like Orr anymore" press conference.

Sure, but he's definitely kept fighters in the line-up since. Not to mention he is still the guy who hired Carlyle and Carlyle's always been a guy with a goon on the roster.

So I buy that he soured on Orr in particular but his actions say otherwise with regards to the Gooning Profession.

I'm pretty sure we're all old enough to realize Orr isn't putting himself in the lineup and when he's being criticized it is criticism of the people who are putting him in the lineup.

jonasTSN1050: Stephane Robidas participating in practice this morning. Unclear yet if he's been cleared for contact.

jonasTSN1050: Robidas paired with Phaneuf today, potential preview of the team's new top pair.

UPDATE:

jonasTSN1050: Clarkson will visit a specialist for his cheekbone this afternoon, per Randy Carlyle. Robidas has been cleared for contact.

Clarkson really does just love messing up the start of his season by doing something stupid in a pre-season game against the Sabres.

Well at least McGrattan had 4 goals and 4 assists last year.

He probably miss a week and then a month with full cage. I honestly thought he played a good game last night.
