Training Camp Thread

Which is totally ridiculous, I'd rather a young guy gets more of a look than two slugs like that.  The organization talks a big game about young guys getting long looks, and yet they keep around the bash brothers.

I get what you're saying, but I'd save my outrage for if they survive the final cut, which I'm starting to suspect that Orr might.

That would blow my mind.

Tyler Biggs stays up over McKegg and Brown, hah.

To be fair, he's been pretty consistent since being drafted.  Not the good kind of consistent, but at least its something.

That's a good point, I was hoping that he was at least neutered by Shanahan.

If the organization thought about him what the blogosphere thought of him, he'd have been fired. No two ways. Shanahan is who made the decision to keep him and if he were the big tough guy everyone seems to be thinking he is, he probably wouldn't want a neutered coach hanging around.

So Bibeau has stayed up, implying he'll back up Sparks in the AHL? Or would he be better off going to Orlando and starting in the ECHL with Heeter backing up Sparks in the AHL?

Heeter isn't signed to a contract, and I'm not really sure he will be. At least not a NHL one. I would assume the plan would be for Sparks to start in the AHL with Bibeau and Gibson rotating between starting in the ECHL and backing-up in the AHL.

I thought Mclaren was waived last season - I really thought he was out of the organization. I had no idea he was still here.

If they insist on keeping an 'enforcer' type, I hope it's Broll (it won't be).

Well, he was already cut so yeah probably not happening for him this season. Bodie still has a chance though.

Even if Orr does get a spot on the roster, I can't see him actually playing very many games.

I liked what I saw out of Heeter though in the two games.  I hope they give him a fair look even if it only amounts to an ECHL 1B type position.

He's turning 26 in November with just 76 (unimpressive) AHL games under his belt. He was probably just brought in to give the camp an even number of goalies. The team already has 3 minor league goalies under contract and I'm sure Orlando has one of their own.

edit: The list on the Leafs site doesn't have Orr or Booth, but I'm guessing that's just a mistake. They've left guys off the original list as well at first.

That is how I expect Carlyle to deal with the team:

Komarov / Holland / Clarkson
Winnik / Santorelli / Orr
Kontiola / Frattin

Phaneuf / Polak
Gardiner / Robidas

I think Bibeau has earned a couple more games based on recent history.  I don't know that I can say the same of the other guys, but I haven't seen enough of the other guys to know for sure.

I'm starting to have this bad feeling that Orr is in the lineup opening night.  That could mean Carlyle either rolling 3 lines again, or giving Orr 10 minutes/night.  If the latter happens, the collective heads of all the pro-analytics people will explode simultaneously, throwing the Earth of its axis.

Orr starting with Frattin in the press box would throw me into a rage... but wouldn't surprise me at all.  >:(

Unfortunately from the games I have seen, Orr has played just as well as Frattin, Both of them having one shot on net

That being the case, they should give the ice time to the guy with more upside that they traded Jerry D'Amigo for.  Orr has no upside that I can see.
