Training Camp Thread

The only surprise there is MacWilliam, who made it all the way to the end of training camp last year, so I'm surprised he's being sent down so early.

Last year he had a better chance at cracking the top 6 than he does this year.

I thought Mclaren was waived last season - I really thought he was out of the organization. I had no idea he was still here.

He was waived, but, he's really bad, so no one claimed him.

Tyler Biggs stays up over McKegg and Brown, hah.

Yeah, though, to be fair, if you're going to use one of those 3 as a 4th liner winger . . . McKegg and Brown still have upside.

From what I have seen so far, Kontiola shouldn't be anywhere near the NHL roster come opening night.

Yeah, I crossed him off my list.

Who would be in the press box instead?  Bodie?  Bodie seemed to have some hustle last year as well as size.

Yep, I think Bodie is making a case to replace both Orr and McLaren for toughness, and can skate and check more effectively on the fourth line than either of those two.

How about no one? Carry 22 healthy players and keep some cap space open, as well as some roster flexibility.

Agree.  Flip him and Frattin in and out of the lineup, depending on the opponent and whether you want some size/oomph vs. speed on the 4th line.

Meh.  I was hoping for a closer resemblance.  It would help if Nylander parted his hair the other way.  And hung out with reindeer.  And wanted to be a dentist.

So, Orr fought 6 times last season: twice on opening night, 3 times in November, and once in January.  Yet he got in 54 games.  Which really begs the question: what on earth is he providing?

I don't care if he is in the last round of cuts, he just better be in the cuts somewhere.  Guy will be 32 soon, ain't getting any better.  Not to mention, as the article states, his concussion issues make him fighting anymore a scary proposition.

I'd love to see the Leafs have 4 lines where I don't cringe every time 1 or 2 of the players gets on the ice.

That was my whole point about these 2 guys (I include McLaren as well).  I don't think they have any place on this team, and I would rather have kept up McKegg and Brown to give them a few more exhibition games as opposed to these 2 guys.

JoeYerdon: Spencer Abbott on waivers by the Leafs. Big AHL season last year. Team in need of a slick forward might take a shot.

Kevin Marshall and Trevor Smith have also been placed on waivers today.

I actually thought they may have taken a closer look at Smith considering the Kontiola situation. I was happy with his play when he got top-9 injuries last season. He was a good injury replacement. I think the Rangers would be smart to pick him up here.

Interesting that Jacob Markstrom is on waivers in Vancouver.

Yeah, he was pretty highly touted at his draft.

Yeah. Of all the players on waivers today, he's probably the most likely to be claimed. My guess is he clears, though. The timing is in Vancouver's favour here, as most teams have 3 or 4 goalies in camp right now, and very few are unsettled at the position. His NHL numbers are also pretty uninspiring.

Was thinking maybe Winnipeg but yeah not sure who else would put in a claim right now.
