Trouba traded to the Rangers

What I take away from all this is that we should convince Zaitsev to stay and ask him to become Parayko/Trouba.

ICYMI: here's why Trouba wanted into New York

Is it alright to say that it's awesome and refreshing to hear an athlete speak about how his partners needs are just as important as his... while also saying that Trouba is smart enough to know that using this as his excuse for leaving makes him seem 100x better than speaking the real truth (which is that he hates Winnipeg and that he's wanted out of there for years).

I think the second part is probably a little more reason'y.

I?ll allow it.

Word is that Myers to Vancouver (for an obscene amount) is nearly a done deal. Winnipeg will be down to the Buff on their right side, i.e. Zaitsev for Ehlers bye.

And now he's signed. 7 years/8 AAV
Asking. Is he really worth 8 mill?

I mean, I think if he were a UFA someone would maybe have offered that to him but I can't pretend to have seen enough of him in Winnipeg to be an expert on how good he is night in and out.

EvolvingWild had his contract projections a little close to $7mil on a long-term deal, but there's always a premium when it comes to top pairing RHD (except when it comes to Winnipeg trading them away) so I'm not surprised it was a little higher.

Thx. I guess I just haven't seen him play enough.

No problem. And, really, even if he doesn't repeat his performance from this past season, it's an overpayment for the first 2 or 3 seasons, and then probably in-line with contracts around the league from then on.

True enough.

Trouba's point totals have never been eye-popping but that's partially explained because he didn't regularly play on Winnipeg's top PP unit, that was usually Byfuglien. It's probably not a coincidence that he finally got to the 50-point mark in a season where Buff missed half the games. But over the past 3 seasons his 5-on-5 points/60 is among the highest among defencemen, just slightly behind Rielly and Barrie even. So as long as gets PP opportunities with New York he'll probably stay at or even above the 50 point mark.

Fair enough. Injuries are a concern with him, though. He's only played more than 65 games in a season twice in his 6 seasons in league.

With this deal I just noticed the Rangers are now over the Cap and Brad Richards is now getting 1,055,556 a year until 25/26. He was bought out in 2014...Nice retirement package lol.

Yeah that's really the only concern here. When he's on the ice though he's a top pair RHD who can play in all situations. $8mil seems fair, not a discount but not really overpaid either. I'm not really sure you can really account for injuries on contracts with players like him though. Just gotta cross your fingers.
