Not sure this is the right thread, but I really hope we can sign David Clarkson this off-season. He's a guy who can do a bit of everything and would give us size, some skill (has 12 pts so far in 9 games), can fight, and is a local boy.

With him in the fold I'd move Kulemin in a package for whatever needs to be addressed.

Something like:

Lupul - Getzlaf - Kessel
JVR -  Grabbo - Clarkson
Kadri - Bozak - Frattin
Brown - McClement - whoever

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Kostka (for $ sake)- Gardiner
Franson - Fraser/Holzer

I'd buy out Komi, and trade Kulemin, Liles, Mac and maybe some prospects depending what we could get in return that we need (mainly a #1 D). Also not sure of the $$ in that roster but I'm guessing it might be doable.

We've got the rest of the season to see how the goalie situation is, but so far, it seems like less of a problem than the Defence/Offense.

Anyone think we could move Kessel + for Weber? He's currently sitting on 0 pts in 9 games!

With the Washington Capitals struggles (I really can't believe the way Ovechkin's play has tailed off), is there an opportunity for some sort of deal with Washington?  If the Capitals want to turn it around this season and trade for right-now assets, I wonder if their first round pick this year would be in play (they have a few kicking around from the Varlamov deal, no?).

No. The first rounder they got for Varlamov was used on Filip Forsberg last year. They have an extra second this year, I think.

We could always trad for filip forsberg.  He should be a real good forward in a couple years.  What are washington's needs though?

No, we can't "always trade for Filip Forsberg."

Forsberg for Morgan Rielly is pretty much fair value.  Want to do that?  Clearly the Leafs wouldn't as they would have just drafted Forsberg in the first place.

Washington is build for now.  They would want a proven player not a prospect.  They might trade MacArthur or Grabbo for Forsberg.

Not a chance in hell they'd do that..

Washington is in last place in the league and are now likely looking at this year as an opportunity to restock the farm system and add youth. They're not trading their top prospect for a quick fix that's not going to get them anywhere.

They are last place 10 games in the season.  LA stumbled out of the gates last year as well.

10 games into a 48 game season and they've looked absolutely awful in every facet of the game. LA started 6-2-2 last season and it still took them until the last few games of the season to earn a playoff spot. Washington doesn't have that kind of time.

Thinking about Ryan O'Reilly here for a second. With the apparent emergence of Nazem Kadri, what about dealing Grabovski?

To Avalanche

Jake Gardiner
Mikhail Grabovski
Clarke MacArthur

To Toronto

Ryan O'Reilly
Shane O'Brien
Avs 1st round pick

Yes? no?

Doesn't help Colorado much. MacArthur is an UFA this summer and with Stastny and Duchene there isn't much of a need for Grabovski.

The Avs have cap space for MacArthur, but ok.

Jake Gardiner for O'Reilly straight up.

Way I see it it's a 2nd pairing defenceman for a 2nd line centre. Could be close, but the Avalanche might want to wait and see how Gardiner comes back from his concussion at a NHL level.

Send Bozak in the deal with Kessel for O'Rielly, 1st and a prospect or pick..  Bozak gives them a 3rd centre who probably re-signs given his Colorado connections.  If I'm not mistaken I think he actually lives there too.

He played there in collage.

Oh I know but pretty sure he has a home there.  Trying to recall but he was tweeting about going back and forth from Colorado to Toronto during the lockout.

He was skating with the U of Denver team, but, I'm pretty sure he lives in Toronto now.

Jesus Christ, I can't believe people want to move Kessel for a somewhat unproven potential first liner.

Toss in Bozak too now?

I'd offer then Bozak and 2nd maybe.

The guy is a hold-out, sure they probably won't take that offer, but they might get desperate.

No matter what, unless Kessel tells us he is definitely not signing, you don't move a point per game player for a bunch of maybe's.

It's the "unproven" centre but also the potential top 3 1st round pick we are looking at here.

And.. just playing around.

So a raffle ticket and O'Reilly?

I'll take Kessel and his point per game and try and put complimentary pieces beside him.

In a draft like this, the raffle ticket is a pretty good one, no? That said, leave it to the Leafs to whiff.  ::)

Extremely extremely thin chance there. It's not even a top 5 pick right now, and they'd be adding a 1st line winger and a solid centre to their lineup without taking anything out of it.

It depends on where the Leafs will finish this season as well.  If at the deadline the Leafs are out of a playoff spot and looking to be a top 10 draft pick team, why not trade Kessel and get an additional first round pick (even if it's a low first round)
