Zee said:Stupid that the US committee let those comments go public. They're debating pros and cons of players behind closed doors and naturally they're going to pick guys apart in a frank discussion. I'm sure Burke wouldn't have ever said that if he knew it would become public.
CarltonTheBear said:Paul Martin and Brooks Orpik over Keith Yandle and Dustin Byfuglien? That's like, Eric Brewer bad in terms of nepotism. Behind Suter those two might be America's best two defencemen. Oh well, as a Canadian I'm thrilled.

Ryan said even in the summer after conversations with USA hockey he felt like the odd man out.
Ryan called Burke's comments of his play "gutless"
Ryan says Burke called him yesterday. Hasn't returned the call.
"You almost feel degraded," says Ryan. Says he has "to prove them wrong."
This is however hilarious, Ryan Kesler changed his mobile phone number and US team invited 67 year old Canadian...

bustaheims said:Leaving Yandle behind is really mystifying. He's exactly the type of defenceman you want on the bigger ice surface - mobile, good with the puck and plays a defensive game that's more about positioning and intelligence rather than physicality.
Nik the Trik said:Except it seems like common perception is that his defensive game isn't particularly good, regardless of what attributes it has.
bustaheims said:Perhaps, though, I suppose I disagree with that perception. While I wouldn't call him a defensive stalwart or anything, I think his play on that side of the puck is under-rated because it's not flashy or, like with so many of the quieter, more positioning based and cerebral defencemen, goes unnoticed by everyone but his coach and teammates.
Nik the Trik said:I don't watch him a ton so I don't have a strong opinion on it but I think it's pretty telling that his own coach has stapled his butt to the bench on the PK the last few years. OEL, who isn't exactly a bruiser himself, has not been similarly overlooked.
bustaheims said:Sure, but, at the same time, the calibre of the Coyotes' PK over the past few seasons could certainly call his coach's PK strategy into question.
Snoopzilla said:It's pretty clear the Americans valued how well a player fits a role over how much better other players are currently performing.
If it were about merit and leaving aside past reputations, I think Callahan and Brown should have been left off. Stepan made it solely because they needed a 5th center. Orpik was to fill the void of an in-your-face D-man.
If it were based on who's playing the best hockey right now you'd have to think that least some of Saad, Ryan and Okposo would be there.
