Useless Thread

Just posting for sympathy, got an abscess in one of my teeth roots, first time I've ever even had toothache. I've broken bones and had various ailments over the years, but I genuinely can't think of anything that has put me in so much pain, so constantly and completely stopped me in my tracks. And it's 2 1/2 weeks til I can get a spot at my dentist to fix it up properly (though they did get me in for a bit of a temporary fix with about 3 hours notice so I can't complain about that really)

For those that didn't catch it during the game last night or live outside the GTA, an Amber Alert was issued at 11 pm EST for the abduction of a little girl on her birthday by her father. Some people had the gall to complain to the police about the notification disrupting their sleep.

The Amber Alert ultimately served its purpose and citizens directed the police finding the child and her abductor, but it was unfortunately too late for her. I hope those complainers take a good long look at their priorities and figure out what type of person they want to be in this world.

I was actually a little curious about that. I got both alerts on my phone but I was then talking to someone, also with a phone, who had no idea what I was talking about. Was it only on some phones? Did you need to have the volume on?

It will only work for modern LTE-enabled phones and is geographically specific to the phone's current location, depending on the alert radius they determine. They say mute functions will block the sound, but my phone was on silent and it still sounded the alarm.

I think in older versions of some phone software there was an opt-out setting; They appear to have removed that option now (and rightly so).

And it wasn't just complaints on social media, there were actually people calling 911 to complain about the amber alert.

I have an older phone and didn't get any alerts.  My wife had her phone off so we didn't hear it from hers either.

I can see why it scares the crap out of people though.

I genuinely want to take a 6 foot tall cactus and shove it up the ass of everyone complaining about this.

I'll happily accept an Amber alert going off every hour of the night if it means these children have a chance of survival.

Selfish pieces of garbage.

Just said to my Wife, they could run through our backyard at 3 am to try to save someone every night if they want. Her answer was, yeah be awaken for 20 minutes so someone gets the chance to wake again.

Amid all of the complaints about and of Amber Alert (s), it was credited for leading police to the eventual apprehension of the the girl's killer -- her father.  Such an heartbreaking outcome.

Police had a message about all of this:

Pretty shocking to see that Brexit(and, to some extent, issues with antisemitism) has led to the splintering of the Labour party in the UK. As a Left-Wing Jewish person with deep ties to the UK it is a very sorry state of affairs.

The rumour mill are that there will be more to follow from Labour, but also some from the Tories. It could be the start of a new centrist party which is needed while Labour and the Conservatives seem to be lurching to the more extreme ends of the left and right

And there we go, 1 more Labour and the first 3 Conservatives. They are now the equal 3rd biggest party in the UK House of Commons and have almost wiped out the majority given to the Conservatives by the DUP

Yeah, except that sort of is why it bums me out so much. I'm not a centrist. I don't think I'm extreme but I'm generally fine with a far more socialized capitalist society where certain important industries are nationalized. So I have no problem with the economic policies advanced by Labour, I just can't get around the fact that I think they've become institutionally antisemitic.

Yes, that's very fair. I've obviously been more intrigued by the ramifications for firstly Brexit but also how this might impact future Westminster elections but obviously one of the key reasons has been the anti semitism. Corbyn has been a very poor leader and has a pretty chequered past anyway when it comes to who he has aligned himself with.

That, the anti semitism and his own personal views on brexit have led Labour to completely miss an open goal when it comes to destroying one of the worst governments I've seen

This story is just banana-pants insane, wealthy parents just outright paying bribes to get their kids into universities in the states.

And, as always, it makes me think of this cartoon which is one of my favourite political cartoons of all time:

It really is quite fascinating how many of the Republican complaints consistently seem to be projections of their own party corruptions

I am not an expert on Islam but to release THAT STATEMENT I believe more homework should have been done before painting Islam with that brush.
