WJHC (World Junior Hockey Championships) 2015

I know its early in the tourney, but I didn't think Domi was going to look this good. The kid has skill.

I don't know why anyone would doubt his skill and effort level unless you aren't watching junior hockey and the Knights.  He's pretty consistently their best forward and he's taken on a pretty solid leadership role this year.  He seems to be getting the Nazem Kadri seal of 'arbitrarily declaring them to be a selfish player who doesn't work hard' moniker for absolutely no reason.

They look like Team USA uniforms from 8 years ago.

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that. The black on the shoulder pads really comes off as a dark navy blue which goes with the USA colour scheme.

Are you referring to me? I simply meant I didn't expect him to look so remarkable relative to all the other high-end talent on the team (McDavid, Lazar, Reinhart, etc). Relax.

Final score: Canada 4  Germany 0

Not an easy opponent these Germans, unlike the previous game where Canada practically steamrollered over hapless Slovakia 8-0.

Germany, while not exactly  an offensive powerhouse in that descriptive sense of the word, made the Canadians work a little harder for the win.  Eric Comrie, Team Canada's goaltender was kept busy in the net, while star prospect Connor McDavid helped the cause by garnering 3 points on the night (1 goal, 2 assists).

Next up for Canada is against Finland on Monday night.

In other WJC action, Slovakia stunned Finland 2-1, backed by goaltender Denise Godla's 37 saves.

Sweden soared past Denmark 5-1.

I haven't watched either of Canada's games.  I see Gauthier has no points yet.  How's he been playing?

Against Germany he went 10-0 on faceoffs and had 2 shots on net. I only caught a bit of it live, those stats are from the Leafs website.

Last night, Team USA walloped Germany 6-0, while Team Russia pounded Switzerland 7-0.  A night of shutouts indeed.

Speaking of the Russia/Switzerland tilt, Switzerland defenceman Phil Baltisberger (Guelph Storm) was sent flying after being hit by Russian forward Anatoly Golyshev.  Baltisberger was carried on a stretcher to hospital but was later deemed okay by team spokespeople.
Possible disciplinary action by the IIHF commitee may be meted out to Golyshev.

Attendance for the tournament is much better in Toronto than Montreal.

As of yesterdays games, the attendance in Toronto is ~13,300 and ~9,600 in Montreal and Montreal has the Team Canada games.

Team Canada defeated Team Finland 4-1 as the line of Sam Reinhart, Anthony Duclair and Max Domi led the way.

Reinhart with 2 goals, Duclair and Lazar with one apiece.

Canada's next and last opponent of the round-robin is against USA -- Connor McDavid versus Jack Eichel -- with first place at stake.
Game is Wednesday.

I'd be so tempted to offer up Kessel to Phoenix for Domi. First big step in a rebuild.

Ease up there. Jordin Tootoo looked awesome at the World Juniors too. If they're trading Kessel...they better get more.

Haven't watched much of this so far, but will tune in for US-CAN. Excited to see Eichel vs. McDavid. Last year I thought that Eichel had the advantage, but McDavid didn't get much playing time then.

Seriously. As much as I've been harping about Kessel's play think there would be a whole lot more heading our way.
